For what reason did you start genealogy research?
I really got my first taste when I was in 3rd grade and went to my Great Grandmother's house to "interview" her! She told of the time when her father shot a bear that was coming into the back yard where she was playing in South Jersey, and the story about the scandal created when my wealthy Great Great Grandmother in Philadelphia ran off and married the Irish coachman! I wrote down as much as possible and re-read those stories many times! I still have the originals.

Just got an exciting email from a Sheppard cousin in Ireland!

I just want to let you know that not all the Sheppards emigrated. Many of us remained. In fact, we're having a Sheppard family gathering this weekend in Tipperary, just a few short miles from CastleSheppard. CastleSheppard was the home of William Sheppard, the younger brother of Thomas Sheppard.

This weekend gathering coincides with the 100th anniversary of my great-grandfather James Sheppard. We are all there to unveil a memorial to him. Incidentally, my uncle and father are…

Thanks Dave for your welcome. My gt gt gran - Elizabeth Eleanor Dare was christened 29th February 1824 at St Mary's Lambeth. Her parents were John Dare and Mary. He was a wheelwright & their abode was at Kennington. I have a marriage in Esher on 4 Jan 1821 of John Dare and Mary Wa(r)ters - they may be her parents given the time scale. Elizabeth married William Churchley 10 Sep 1843 in Islington. Sadly, in the 1891 census she was in Holloway prison as an inmate, aged 77 and she died several months later at the Islington Infirmary.

Hi Dave -

Do come & join the England group -
http://www.genealogywise.com/group/england/

It has links to many of the county groups, so is an excellent central
point for links round the country, and a focal point for news & discussions
relevant to England.

My first Sheppard ancestor, Maria C. Sheppard, was born March 3rd 1791 in London, England. She married Benjamin Briscoe on November 22nd 1815 in London. They had four known children, Charles Benjamin Briscoe born April 3rd 1818 in Cripplegate, Middlesex, England, Isabella born May 1st 1822 in London, Martha born December 16th 1825 in Hackney, Middlesex, and Joseph Henry Briscoe, born October 5th 1829 in Middlesex, who was a direct paternal ancestor of my grandmother.

Maria was the daughter of Charles Sheppard Sr. and his wife, Ann. Charles Sheppard Sr. was born 1758 in London, and Ann was born 1760 in London. They had six known children, Jane Sheppard born April 16th 1783 in London, Charles Sheppard Jr. born October 4th 1784 in London, William Sheppard born August 21st 1786 in London, Elizabeth Sheppard born January 6th 1788 in London, Sarah Bardwell Sheppard born August 18th 1789 in London, and Maria.

And that's my lineage, I'll also add that I believe Charles Sheppard had a brother named William Sheppard who married a woman named Constance. They had three known children, George Augustus Sheppard born 1784 in London and died 1819 in Christ Church, Southwark, England, William Phipps Sheppard born 1787 in Westminster, London, and Charles Sheppard born April 1st 1791 in London.

I sent another email to my cousin who is married to a Ferrell. Since her and I have great fun picking on each other, I suggested her son and his wife (a DeVault) could very well be related. That will get her going!

on a different note ..... have you noticed the Lippincott house in Mullica Hill is for sale? I am tempted to call the owner and ask to see the inside of the house.

All I have is Hannah's father-in-law. That is one of my brick walls. Poor Hannah's husband ...... he is one of my favorite ancestors. It was his Civil War pension records (and Weldon bible records) that I caught the genealogy bug from.

I just noticed you have Middleton on your surname list. My grandmother's sister, Ida Wiley, had that as a middle name.
