Miners Hunter valley - Daniel Galvin

My grandfather was Daniel Galvin and he was a miner in the Hunter. His marriage cert shows he was a coal sinker. My mother said he ended up as a mine manager in the Hunter. In his probate details which I sourced recently from NSW State Archives it notes he was in receipt of compemnsation from BHP. I haven't done much about following up the mining aspect but I understand that there are union records for miners which could be useful.I have a CD I bought some years ago which is a history of the…See More

BOUFFIER/BUFFIER from Wiesbaden/BadKamberg/Neudorf Hessen Nassau to Australia

Hi allI've just joined. My German interests are Buffiers/Bouffiers from Hessen Nassau in the 1840s. Heinrich Buffier (Bouffier in Australia) emigrated to Australia with his wife Catharine Webber and their son Johannes from Germany in 1849. I would be very happy to get any information about the family in Germany. I have plenty in Australia, the family had vineyards in Australia and exported wines back to Europe. Associated families are the METHs, SCHIPPS, ANSOULS.AnneSee More

W Surname - WHITEFORD probably from Antrim

Hi all, I've just joined the group. James Whiteford son of Alexander Whiteford and Margaret Cain/Kain/Cane was born in Ireland in May 1826 but christened in Campbeltown Argyll Scotland in late May 1826. James later emigrated to Australia but Alexander, Margaret and at least two of their other children, Catherine and Margaret died in Campbeltown. James death certificate in Australia just shows Ireland as his place of birth. There may also have been other children, Thomas and Rosanne who I…See More
