How is the research going for Wapello Co.,IA.? I hope you are having luck in finding your ancestors! I'm still looking for descendants of Thomas Drake & Hannah Browning who moved there from Monroe Co.,OH. circa 1869.

Hi Mitch!

Another place to check would be the Wapello County Public Library to see if they have anything on George. Do you know his wife's name? Another place to check would be the genealogy society in Wapello County to see what they have on George. Some other places to post would be: www.genforum.com & www.rootsweb.com They probably have a Wise page & a Wapello Co.,IA. page too. Good Luck!

Thanks for responding Pam. George Wise born abt 1823 should be buried in Wapello County. Date of death after 1870. I don't think I have checked the census yet, will do soon thanks. I have a small story about William Wise,my grt-grt grandfather and his trip to Iowa just after the Civil War. I'll post that soon also.

George Wise would be William's uncle. William returned to Ohio after a brief stay in Iowa but his brother Samuel went out that way a little later and settled in Cameron, Missouri.

Welcome Mitch!

No, I'm sorry I don't know those names. Have you checked the 1870 census yet? Or the 1880 census?

My Halterman family resided in Wapello county in 1865. Joseph Andrew "Jody" Halterman (who married Laura Emma Warren) was born there in that year.
