Hello All--Just joined--just got TNG--just downloaded Pfost's Webmaster's Guide I use Reunion. Now to try to put it all together! Hope to get some help here. Need to get an FTP program yet. Wondering how to use Dreamweaver with this for FTP? Happy Researching to each of you!

Thanks for all the encouragement. Yes I now have the book (e-book) and have started to read it. to make a basic site seems pretty easy. I think the idea of making my PC the development area is a good one. I just need to get the freeware and learn what I am doing. THen I can publish it all to the service provider and start linking to specific pages on Gen'Wise. I am so excited by this development. If I get nothing else out of this entire site (not likely), I am very happy. I just love the idea of getting other family memebers to log in and send updates. It just makes the job a lot easier. Plus they can see their updates immediately.
I am sure I will be back when I start hitting my first few problems.
Cheers

I don't know if you can stop them going to TNG from FTM, but the edit bit I meant was in the TNG database, so you can hide them on the website, but would have to edit them all manually

Judy, I think he's talking about on TNG once you've imported the data.

At the bottom of the notes box if you click on edit (or add new) you will see a little tick box marked private

Allyson, The programme is very easy to install once you have created the database on your web server, just follow the instructions word for word and it should be a breeze. If you do have a problem, it's creator Darrin Lythgoe responds so quickly you would think you were his only customer. I use it as my main programme and export to stand alone programmes as back up, that way I find it easier to add media content and to link it to Google maps. I have about 26k names in mine and it's capability is endless. My website is at www.bobhutchins.me.uk if you wanted a peek.

Thanks to all the positive feedback and the fact that my provider can host this sort of site (just waiting on price) I have taken the first step and purchased the book on TNG. Once that arrives and I have had a quick look, I will purchase the program and get started. Now I need the patience to wait for the book. But I can always use the time to work on the data. I hope that by the end of the year I will have a site to be proud of and also one that others can contribute to. Thanks again.
Cheers

Thanks. I am a TMG user too. Your site is very informative. Now to check out hosting with my provider and see where to from there. And of course - finding the time!
Cheers
