Olive Kate WICKENS was the daughter of John WICKENS (of Englefield) and Maryanne ILSLEY and in 1881 they were living in Harmoor (now Armour Road area). Maryanne was the daughter of Thomas ILSLEY and Maria HAWKINS.
For those unable to visit the Berkshire Record Office to see the original registers there is a CD of transcripts of the Registers of Tilehurst St Michael's available from the Berkshire FHS - see link above

When I was younger my sister Sheila and I used to play with a Wickens on his father's farm that used to be accessed via Downing Road. They had a great carthorse by the name of Kit.

Hi,
I have Sarah and William's birth certificates, also their wedding certificate, they married 09-09-1876 at St John's Church Reading. If you go to the Berkshire Births marriages and Deaths on line you will find a lot of Doe's. I ordered my certificates from the Reading registry Office. I have lots of info on the Doe's not so mcuh for the Turners. Sarah was born in Tilehurst. Hope this helps.

That's great - yes, I think it's highly likely that my great aunt Kate (Olive) was named after her mother then. Thanks for this information - keen to trace this back further - is this from a church record or possibly your own family tree? Any other pointers? Thanks again, Marcus

I haven't been on lone for some time so I am probable out of date however I noticed there are comments about the Doe and Turner families.
My great grandparents were William Doe 08-07-1848 Brimpton and Sarah Turner 28-10-1855

Welcome to the Group Marcus

A George TAYLOR married Olive Kate WICKENS at Tilehurst in 1896 - she was probably the daughter of John and Maryanne WICKENS baptised 17 May 1875 at St Michaels Tilehust.

Is this who you are looking for?

Margaret

Hi there - I am especially interested in Victoria’s post below but maybe others can help too. I have been trying to research my mother’s side of the family with very little luck. All we know is that her grandmother’s surname was Wickens and she was from Tilehurst. She married a George Taylor and died just after the First World War in the flu epidemic. We are tying to connect this to Elsie May Taylor (her daughter – my grandmother) who had siblings Sydney Herbert George, Olive Kate and Ronald Philip. We have been thought a lot of channels but none of these people appears to show up in census information. Thanks Marcus
