Shalom and Hag Sameach.
My name is Ze'ev Abigador. My grandfather was born under the Misri surname in Aleppo. In his twenties and after marrying into the Codron family from Rhodas, he and his new family moved to Egypt, where he surfaced with the Abigador(maybe Avigdor in Hebrew transliteration) surname. Nobody in my extended family knows why, and the oldest of the living sons never ask why. My quest is to find Why.

One hypothesis that has been floating around is that being in Egypt (mizraim) the name Misri was to close to Mizraim, but it is only based on speculation. Not good enough for me.

My father tells me that one day in Israel he introduce himself to an older gentleman from Halab and upon saying Abigador, the gentleman responded: " Ha Misri". But my father never follow the conversation. Based on this I think that must be a correlation between the two surnames.

If somebody has any information, it will be very appreciated.

Thank you Ze'ev
