My grandmother, Ruth Nave, was born in South Bend, St. Joseph County, in 1892. Her father was Teter "Tete" Nave and her mother was named Elizabeth "Lizzie" Taylor. "Tete" Nave died in Logansport in 1909, and sometime between 1910 and 1920, Lizzie Nave and her daughter Ruth returned to South Bend. Ruth Nave and my grandfather Benjamin Franklin "Frank" Reed, were married in South Bend 25 November 1913. Frank Reed took the family to Detroit, Michigan, where he worked as a railroad switchman. My mother was born there in 1916. Before my mother's first birthday, her father was killed in a railroad accident (October of 1917).
I am Researching many Family Lines from St.Joseph, mostly in and around South Bend, both of my Parents were born there, my Dad in 1925 and my Mom in 1928.

The Surnames in my Direct lines that from St. Joseph County are:

Nye
Pieters/Peters
Neirinck
Ellis
Morris
Best
Kauffman
Sheaks
Chubb

I have lots to share on all of these Families and would love to connect with others who are also Researching these lines.

My uncle Walter H. Thomas and aunt Minda lived in So. Bend, Mishawaka, and in Ft. Wayne.  Uncle Walter was my grandmother's brother so he's really a "grand" to me.  They had two sons, Walter, Jr. and Charles Bernard (Bernie, to us).  Uncle Walt was born in Mole Hill, WV, the third son and fourth child of William Daniel Thomas and Etta May Gorrell Thomas.  He and Uncle Fred (his oldest brother) were in WW1 together; both returned.  Bernie was married to Ethel (?) and they had five children.  Bernie died in the mid-70's; his widow stated that "he had died by a gun."  So I was kind of wanting to see his obituary but I don't know how to go about that.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.
