Already preordered.
James,

Excellent !!

Russ
Unfortunately that doesn't help Mac users. : (
Donna,

Hopefully, I'll have something by the End of the Year for MAC users. There has been some comments along that line in at least One Webinar.

Russ
Thanks, Russ! I appreciate the reply earlier that the new one is coming out.

I am so frustrated with this 100k person GEDCOM that I cannot download at the moment. It has three of my major family trees in it and it freezes 1/2 way through compiling.

I will look forward to the end of year for the Mac version.

Donna : )
Donna,

Where is this 100k GEDCOM file that you are trying to download from?

Not sure that a Mac Version will resolve a download issue.

Russ
The Good-Engle-Hanks Family Gedcom was a large file and did fine initializing then froze up. I got it by Googling for the family line Engle. It was on one of the big Genealogy sites where the person who set it up has a webpage. Sorry I can't pin it down any closer than either Cindi's List or else, Genealogy.com.

I didn't write the addy down as I should have. I have a printed sheet somewhere with all the info on it. I will look for it and get it back to you soon. I also tend to use SortedbyName.com a lot.

Donna
Donna,

Was just curious. Again, I am not sure that the Mac version of Family Tree Maker will resolve a download problem.

Russ
I hate updating my FTM because I have to get used to it all over again, I don't like change... but now i have windows 7 and my old version is not compatable. I think the last version I have is 2006 and it is just fine for me as I don't print out the reports and stuff I don't like the way it does pedigree charts and descendant charts, but I started with FTM and so I continue on with it, What I need to know is will everything including my photos be transfered to the new version from the back up of the old one? I did not do a ged com, just a back up.
Jo
Jo,

Family Tree Maker 2011 will open your Version 2006 Family File. The nice thing about 2011 vs 2006 is that ALL of your Images will NOT be included in the file, but will have Separate Image Files that are linked to the individuals and/or Sources in your Version 2006 file. It makes for easier Backing up of the File and not create such One Large File as Version 2006 does.

Yes, it may take a bit to get used to the new User Interface, but I find it much easier to navigate and to use.

I do have a Blog that might help see what the new User Interface looks like. I am guessing that Version 2011 won't be too much different than what I have on the Blog. It will be very close.

Russ
Thank you, Russ I take it this is a yes to the question about my photos being transferred.
Jo,

Oh yeah. They ARE brought into the new version. However, they are taken out of the File and put into a Media Folder for your Family File, each image is a separate file.

Media

Rather than all of the images being in your Family Files, there are links from the person in your file with the image, to the image in the Media Folder.

You can Name the individual image file the way you want, but you may have to rename the filenames, from within Family Tree Maker to be the filename that you want. It's not a difficult task. I have spent some time cleaning up my images and making sure that the Categories are they way I want them, the Captions are the way I want them, AND that they are linked to the right people, since you can link on image to multiple people.

This may be important, as you have various ways to see the images and sort them, in the Media Workspace.

A long way of saying "Yes" they will be transferred.

Russ
