I have been looking for my gr.gr.grandparents for quite a while with mixed success.

Maria Sheasby moved from Warwickshire with her daughter to Devon and on 13 Nov 1849 married John Wood who was born in Stokenham, Devon about 1825 (according to 1851 and 1861 censuses).  On the 1871 census Maria Wood is shown as Widow.

All the registrations for Bishopsteignton come under Newton Abbot and I sent for the only death certificate of a John Wood in Newton Abbot in the 1861 to 1871 time frame.  However it is not his as the John Wood on that death certificate would have been born around 1788.

There are lots of other deaths listed for John Wood in the 10 year time span but the later ones show an age so can be ruled out.

Can anyone suggest how I can pin down which of the other John Woods could be the right one.  It would be very expensive to send for all the certificates.

Is anyone near the Devon Record Office to be able to check on the Parish Register?  Or is that available on line?

Thank you in advance for your suggestions and help.
