Welcome Mary!

Hopefully, you will be able to find some cousins & more information about Elmer Reeves.

Pam in IN.

P.S. Do you know what part of IN. he was born?

My grandfather was Elmer (Elmore on one census) was born in Indiana in 1871 and first appears on a census when he was nine years old as the Stepson of Anthony Alexander. His mother was named Emma, but I have found no ancestors for either of them...I have several pictures of him as an adult. I have found many Emmas married to a Reeves, but no trace of my grandfather in any birth or census record prior to 1880.

Hi, thanks for the welcome. I have just started on my husbands Alexander line so I really only have 1 Reeves at this time. Mary Reeves born ca 1828 in Ga, married to Lindsay W. Alexander. I am looking forward to finding more Reeves jewls out there. Happy hunting to all.

Thanks Pam! I am a Reeves through marriage, but I have worked hard to trace the line! I am mom to 2 small boys (3 and 1 yrs) so I haven't had much time for genealogy lately, but I hope to get back in the swing of things over the next year.

My husband traces his ancestry to (James) Asa Reeves (born abt 1776 SC, died 15 July 1870 in Hermitage Springs, Clay Co, TN). Asa sired 16 children between two wives, most of whom stayed in the Jackson County, TN area (although some settled in AR). We are descended from Asa's son William Joseph Reeves (b. 1819, d. 1904), who lived out his days in Gainesboro, Jackson Co, TN.

Most researchers believe that Asa's parents are Daniel Reeves and Eleanor Guthrie, but I have not yet found definitive proof of this connection. It is certainly true that Daniel and family settled in Davis Co, TN (Nashville area). I have not successfully traced them back to their origins in SC.

Looking forward to making contacts with other researchers and hopefully immersing myself in genealogy once again soon!
