Have been searching for births dating back to before it was required to register births. How do you find them when their is no bible or church records? Especially when your trying to prove for the DAR. Dianne

on the early birth dates its hard to find a birth record for your person. Depending on when the person was born you can use the like the 1850 census on down to prove there birthdate.

What time period are you looking sweetie??

Another way to prove it is by getting a copy of there tombstone. That will help prove it too.

I have a tombstone for one. his birth date was 1830. Have his daughters death certificate. Born 1875 to 1944. Have nothing for his mother have her on 1850 census with her father the Patriot. There is the problem. Her husband is in the census for Huntingdon County. No names for her or children 1820. Her father is there in the census 1810. How much proof does the DAR require. Dianne
Im thinking again sweetie..
1. dianne vital records
2. your parents vital records.
3. grandparents. this is going to be either your mother's parent or father's parent depending on which one goes to the patriot. you will need there vital records. something to prove them back your parents. does that make sense.
4 great grandparents. samething vital records proving them to your grand parents on which ever one goes to the patriot.
Repeating the process down to your patriot.

does this make sense at all sweetie??
yeah that makes sense. I can prove until I get to the Patriot's daughter { Nancy}. Other than him living with her in the1850 census she named a daughter after his wife {her mother?} Daughter's name Rosanna. Not that common. Her son naming his son ASA which is a nickname for Asaph. I know she is his daughter, but will the DAR think so. dianne Also Asaph's son named his son William Welsh Colegate after Nancy's husband.
ugh ugh
does the 1850 census say like by his name father and her name daughter. im hoping...lol...
Do u have a copy of her marriage record or her death record that would prove it?
I made a mistake. got to quite staying up so late. LOL I looked at the wrong census for boarding house residents. It was 1910 census with great grandmother Susanna Welch. The list of boarders all have the same family no. Drats! In the 1850 census the ages are right on. Asaph is 87 and his daughter is 60. Dianne
If he is living in the household with his daughter his age should be on that census. Have you checked to see if he filed for a pension? His pension application should have his birth date and who and where he served. Tf he filed for a pension surely it has a lot of information on it.
This is a problem we all face. Look for Bible records. If you are lucky enough to find someone who has a Family Bible with the information you need, ask them if they will be kind enough to copy the title page and the family information for you. Of course when you are using the first census records the ages are in groups, but if you find a Will or probate record that gives his death date you can approximate his age from those census records. I'm sure others will have more suggestioins for you to try.
His age was 87 in1850 census and his daughter he was living with was 60. She also 3 of her children living with her. The age difference is right on too. Dianne
Dianne,

I don't know what state your ancestors lived in. But, I have done quite a bit of research in Virginia during the late 1700's and early 1800's. I found records there in wills, deeds, marriage records, tutorship or custody records( if one spouse died), the Draper manuscripts, etc.

It should be about the same no matter what state you are looking in. My recommendation is look and find what records are available for that particular county. If you cannot find that info online, look at the state archives, then, at the individual county. If that fails, phone the clerk of court for that area and find out what records are available. Sometimes, I make enough phone calls to get on a first name basis with the clerks. They can be very helpful.

Hope this helps,

Cheryl
Weat Virginia. the Patriot came here from Pa. around 1820. Died here in 1855 at 92. Have went to court houses and Wv Vital Records which doesn't have anything on those years. He is listed in Husbands And Wives. dianne

Something dawn on me just know.. Yu are having problems where everybody does when researching there ancestry for the dar. Its always this line in your case Nancy to Asaph. Sometimes it goes to Nancy to the next link.
I had problems too with mine so your not alone. We can get this proven hopefully soon. Im hoping to maybe go to the archives on Tuesday evening cant make any promises though.
