Hi, I am new to geneagolgywise.....I have Thornton's in my family. My gggg grandfather is William Bohon/Bohan Thornton (born in Virginia) I have a picture of his headstone on my profile. His father is Jesse Thornton. They were from Virginia and William B. Thornton went to Marshall Co. Mississippi between 1840 and 1855. Some of his children stayed there and some went to Arkansas. What is your line????
We've been able to document with records back to William S. Thornton b 1792 Abbeville, SC..lived in Edgefield, the line continues with Edmond W (or WIlliam E.) b 1825 (in the Civil War, lived in GA) moved to AL, his son Genatous R. born 1856 lived in AL moved to Galveston, TX toward the end of his life, John Alfonso b 1889 AL, Waco Harrington Thornton ( my grandfather), then Gene R. Thornton Sr (my father).
We know we're connected to the Quaker Thornton line b/c y-DNA confirmed it together with the volumes of research completed by Kenneth Jacob Thornton. Our line beyond William S. is more likely though not validated with documents, rules out pretty much any other Thornton except Eli S. Thornton, Sr b. 1751-4 and his father Thomas Thornton b 1712 (married three times) as was Eli. S.
Dear Mr. Thornton,
I am responding to you July 22, 2009, post.
My Thornton line starts with William S. Thornton who married Elizabeth Walker.
Daughter Nancy Thornton married Abiah Robertson .
Their son John Lewis Robertson married Sarah Martha White.
John lewis and Sarah martha White's son John (Jack) Abiah Robertson married Francis (fanny) Betts in Lowndes Co., MS.
My grandfather, Andrew (Drew) Jackson Robertson was their son.
I assume your research may begin with William S. Thornton? I found in a book written in 1923 entitled: "The hard Labor
Section" by H. T. Cook, that a half brother to William was a John G. Thorton.
Does anyone know the mother of William S. or for John G.?
Is there a Stallworth connection?
Carolyn Robertson Perry
Or should I say hello cousin! Thank you for the email. My connection is through Nancy's younger brother Edmond W. Thornton also referred to as W. E. Thornton in the HLS Book. Yes, I have a copy and it has been used as a great source in rationalizing certain "conclusions" about the Stallworth connection. Our family has looked at this connection from many sources, and can ascertain that we are highly unlikely connected to Stallworth. I've looked at all the supporting "evidence" and all of it can be refuted because there are no credible sources. I developed a case study on the proposition and provided sources and facts that can refute the claim. I am open to any source than can prove it! That would be great! Would you be interested in examining it?

Over the past few years, I've connected to over a dozen Thornton cousins. Several are connected through Nancy as well!
Hope to hear from you and work together and share what we have regarding William's parents, his ancestry and lineage.
I also have a Thornton connection, my ancestor Hannah Thornton was born in 1765 in Warmfield, Yorkshire, England, the daughter of Joseph Thornton. She married John Brigham, the son of John Brigham and Anne Battley. Her great-granddaughter, Annie Elizabeth Williams, nee Brigham, was my 3x great-grandmother.
My mom's maiden name is Thornton. I have the line traced back to an Edward/Edwin & Maude Belle (Miller) Thornton. Various records show his place of birth as: Ohio, Virginia, & West Virginia. He may have been born in Henley, Scioto County, Ohio. I don't have a birth date for him, but Maude was born 16 Jan 1860 in Hamilton County, Ohio to William H. & Sarah Harriet (Bell) Miller. Edwin/Edward & Maude were married on 22 Dec 1886 in Hamilton County, Ohio. He died between 1892-1900. I have not been able to locate a death record for him. Maude died in Tuscarawas County, Ohio 28 June 1941.
They had 2 sons: Neil Adair & Robert N. Robert was a police officer in Lake County, Ohio. He lived from 1892-1932. He & his wife Venus/Curlie did not have any children. Neil Adair Thornton was born 16 Jan 1888 in Hamilton County, Ohio. He married Lenora Hanna on 20 Sept 1911 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. They had 12 children: Leroy, Daughter, Harold, Robert, Lela, Helen, Shirley, Eugene, Darelene, Charles, Delene, & Cleo. Neil died 8 May 1954 in Dover, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Lenora died 30 Jan 1980 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Eugene Edward Thornton was my grandfather.
