Sanford's sister Phebe's husband. Thomas Neal

Sanford was borin in 1834 in Greene Co. PA. His father was Henry Huffman (HOFFMAN and mother Elizabeth HIGGINS HOFFMAN. name was changed after 1860s's early. Have letter written by Henry stating why.

married in Greene Co. PA to Rachel Plants daughter of George Plants and Catherine Stollar.

Sanford enlisted in 1864 and served until the end of the war, honorably discharged.

He later moved to Iowa to be near his brother Hague Hoffman who was learning to be a Doctor.

Thomas moved to Iowa also because Hague offered to care for Thomas Neal since he was seriously injured during the war. There were little to no compensation for fighting especially if you were seriously injured.

Sanford worked as a lay-minister for a period of time.

Moving to Iowa with wagon and  Rachel Plants, wife and children, last one born 1872 in IOWA, Appanoose area. 

Sanford raised Polled Angus Cattle, draft horses of English Breed, was very successful by the times standards.

He rode the Circuit preaching on Sunday's. Have in letter from his daughter and grandaughter.

He had appendicitis and died a very painful death. 17 June 1903 Moravia, IA

Rachel Plants(Plantz) HOFFMAN died 13 June 1920 Moravia, IA

Marriage was about 1857 in Greene Co. PA.

Much of his family is buried in Aleppo Cemetery in Windy Gap, Greene Co. PA including his oldest child.
