For what reason did you start genealogy research?

When I was young my grandfather took me to Philadelphia to visit the ship he was on in WWI called the "Olympia" and the Philadelphia Fire Museum where his Uncle Charles Arthur McClister is listed as one of the fireman that killed in the line of duty from wounds that he sustained by falling off a ladder on 11 March 1911. It was this visit to Philadelphia that planted the "genealogical seed" of which I proceeded such interests back in 1987. Since then I gathered information from several branches of my family lineage back to the mid 1600's and have met distant cousins in person and online from the U.S., England, New Zealand, and South Africa. In addition to my own lineage I have studied other McClister family lines that settled in the U.S. and currently seeking sources to see if we are connected in Ireland. James McClister, for example, was born in County Down, Ireland around 1756 came to the U.S. and settled in Pennsylvania and fought in the Revoluntionary War and then settled on a family farm in eastern Tennessee. He was married twice and his lines descends from Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Texas. Other McClister lines are from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, and California. I have studied other variations McClister such as MacAlister, McAllister, McCallister, McCalister, etc. In the past 24 years I have been utilizing my genealogical interests as a career sideline. Looking for anyone who would like to discuss genealogy in general or needing assistance in researching their family tree.
