Hi Ruby,

I don't use Genealogy Wise often, but I cam across your mention of FLora DOuglas as an ancestor and wondered if she is the same as mine who was from Ayrshire Scotland and married to Edward Garrus Harris/Herries?  Their son Robert had several sons with Dorothy Wyley and my ancestor was their son John.  THis Harris Group is in Group 3 of the Harris DNA Study.  Would love to correspond if this is also your line.  My direct e-mail is teresemitchell@optilink.us

Happy Holidays!

Ruby, Who is your second connection to John and William Moulton? Is it through Joseph Dow III and Mary Nicholes?

Hi, I saw you had some information about the Westerlin's from Dawson County NE some time ago. Would it be possible for you to pass it on to me if you still have it? I'm researching them and I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much!

I am seeking information about Joseph F. Walenta (Valenta), born about 1853 in Bohemia; married Marie A.S. Zima in Butler Co., NE 1 July 1879. She was born about 1856 in Bohemia to Frank Zima (Sr) and Mary/Marie Binna. They settled first in Winneshiek Co., IA and then Butler Co., NE. Joseph and Marie are living with her parents on the 1880 US Census, Butler Co., NE.

I would like to know more about the children of Joseph and his first wife, Marie Zima. Any information is appreciated.

Hello Ruby,

I am new to this group and am not sure how it works. You wrote an article called Murder and Marriage. You were looking for information on Joseph F. Valenta. I have a Joseph Valenta in my relation. His father and mother were on a homestead in Schuyler, NE with their daughter and son-in-law Felix Sefcik in 1880. The Valenta family came from Cermna, Bohemia. The original Valenta family first came to Kewaunee County, WI. I don't know if this is a clue for you or not, but if you think there is some potential, my e-mail address is neargbwi@gmail.com.

Good luck. I'm totally sympathetic. I got lucky by meeting someone there who had taken pix at the cemetery where a lot of my people were, but it is a tough county.

Ruby,
I just joined today and was browsing the Illinois group and saw your request about Putnam County. You may have already heard this, but I was there in 1999 and found that their courthouse won't publish their vital records at all. Even when you are there (at least at that time), you can only look at a marriage index with names and a date. It won't show the other party's name. There was a book at the library that had some of the really old marriages - a history. Apparently they believe (or at least did then) that their records are NOT public records and that they are forbidden by Illinois law to make them public. Definitely not a genealogy-friendly county, unfortunately for those of us who have people there.

Ruby,

In July you wrote:
James Primrose (father of John) was born 23 Sept 1812 in Dumbarton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland to Adam Primrose and Janet Wilson. He married Elizabeth Collins on 13 April 1833 in Bonhill, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. She was born in Dumbarton on 5 April 1815 to Robert Collins and Flora Douglas. James Primrose died 13 May 1904 in Iowa.

I am researching a clockmaker, Douglas of Bonhill, Dumbarton. ( D. 12/09/1891) George was residing in Dumbarton and his wife was Christian McLintock or Douglas

Do you have any details of your Flora douglas?

Yours aye,
William

Hello Ruby:
My line goes: Mason Vannoy, George Briscoe Vannoy, Darby Cantrell Vannoy, Fred C. Vannoy. Fred Clifford Vannoy is my father. He died in 1968. The only thing he ever said was when his half-sister died, he left home. He was born in 1901, Chicago IL. He is in the 1910 census of Terra Haute IN. In 1920, there is a Fred Vannoy in New Orleans. Then in 1930, there is a Fred Vannoy/Viola. The first time he shows up in Anderson IN, is in 1932. I was born in 1943. There are three Fred Vannoy's born in 1901/02. I now think this one is not him, but I need to connect this MO Vannoy to someone. I also got an email from a lady in Audrain Co MO a couple of years ago. that said there is a man named Marvin Vannoy, who did write a book on his Vannoy line that lives (at that time) in the county. I think the town is Mexico? Thanks, Harry in IN
