Hi Rachel, The second photograph is likely 1850s-early 1860s as it appears the trousers are of the broad fall kind which were mostly replaced by mid-1860s by the French or California fly. By magnifying the photo I'm pretty sure I can see the…

Rachel, The second photo is typical of clothing in the early 1860's. I have a picture in one of my clothing books that shows almost the identical suit dated 1860. Sincerly, Laressa Northrup

Hi Rachel I am sorry it took me so long but I have had problems with the genealogywise website. I would date these photos as late 1850's or early 1860's. By 1864, most young women were wearing their hair much higher on the sides like…

Off hand I'd say 1860s to early 1870s mostly due to her hairstyle. The skirt of her dress appears very full? Hoops maybe? I'm assuming there isn't a photographer information?

This is all I have to really go on for my gr-gr-grandfather and his wife.  I'm very curious as to when the picture may have been taken.  I have a few assumptions, but I'd like to see what other people think.See More

There is a public member story concerning the death of John Wesley Riden (1818-1864) on ancestry.com. I would really appreciate it if somebody would let me know what it says. Thanks in advance.

Hi Rachel: Just in case, hope you'll inquire for the 'Gardner" entries. We don't know yet if the father of Charles and Ollie/Mollie/Olive was known by a given name, initials or even a nickname. Any Gardner event(s) of the day…

I will definitely be in contact with the historical society as it sounds like that might be the way to go. There has to be some record of W.H. Gardner.

Hi Rachel:
Wanted to let you know I have been reaching out on your challenge. You've got me hooked. I've sent messages to a couple of other GenWise members, promoting your challenge, have several more to go. I'm inquiring about possibly lesser known newspaper, orphan court records/items. Want to consider migration patterns as well. It was not so uncommon for people to migrate in groups, heading from one place to another. More later.--GJ

Hi Rachel
I really appreciate your comment. For what it's worth, most of the family tradition I've worked on has turned out to be pretty accurate. I think it is very important that you attribute the fact to your grandfather ... placing a time/era/person on tradition, in part, enhances its value.
More at the group.... GJ

Hi Rachel:
Thank you again for supporting the group Most Wanted.
I did a little work on you challenge and then began to wonder how you had been able to identify the civil war veteran as your ancestor?

Separately from the question of identity, your situation reminded me that I've never fully understood the the process of deceased veterans civil war pensions for dependents. One wonders if the family/families who took in the children might have tried to find some support for them. I have notes, but very few, about "minor" depend. I've research who were found listed on the pension cards.
