The Krebs family of Nieder-Wichtrach and Oppligen - Switzerland

Wichtrach, Canton of Bern, Switzerland is located in the "Aaretal", the valley of the Aare-River, between the Swiss capitol Bern and the City of Thun. Oppligen is only two miles away.We traced our ancestors back until the year 1578, the year of the wedding of Hans Kräpps and Vrena Koler, the first documented wedding of the Krebs families of Nieder-Wichtrach and Oppligen! The Krebs of Oppligen are two lines of the Krebs family of Niederwichtrach. They moved about 1680 and 1750 to Oppligen. All…See More

My great grandfather, Johann Friederich KREBS (b. 5 Nov 1867, Wattenwil) emigrated to America from Wattenwil.  I have done extensive research in Wattenwil and the surrounding area.  His family tree can be found at my web site at steve.info. I have utilized church records almost exclusively for my research.  If you know of other resources that may be of help to me, please let me know.  Thank you, and may the Lord bless you.

Good morning, Andreas!  It's just barely morning here, and I'm barely awake.  I'll try to get a hold of Kathleen in the next day or so, and see what I can find out for you.  She's not a member here, so I'll have to figure out something that works for her.  Maybe I can get her to join GenealogyWise.  I let you know what I find out.

Hi Andreas!  You could very well be related to my friend.  I haven't talked to her in some time, but would be happy to try to hook you two up.  She lives in Berkeley, California which is across the bay from San Francisco.  I don't know where her husband's family is from, but that's easy enough to remedy.

The chat is live, but it's all typing, and no voice, so you will do just fine!  Come on over and say hello!

Welcome to Genealogywise, Andreas!  Come join us in the chatroom! Quite a few of us are doing research in the USA.  Do you have any relatives in California?  I have a friend who lives in California.  Her married name is Kathleen Krebs.  Not a common name here, so I thought you might know her.

Melinda

I looking for the Krebs families of Oppligen and Nieder-Wichtrach, Kanton Bern, Switzerland, who have emigrated to the U.S.

We are (my family) Krebs of Oppligen. What does Heimatort (home place, place of origin) mean? Swiss Citizenship
The Heimatort is for a Swiss Citizen very important, it ist the place we are from, the place of our fathers! In Switzerland live 18 Krebs families with different Heimatorten. (The old places, since before 1800) Every town or village is a part of a church parish, the church books are the most important source for genealogy in Switzerland.
The Register of Swiss Surnames is online.
