Donald, we have identified 12 different lines of Mathesons using DNA tools and been able to hook people up with cousins doing genealogical research. Email me at alicefairhurst@gmail.com

We have testers from these parishes in Sutherlandshire: Lairg, Golspie, Dornoch, and Edderachyllis, but none so far from Kildonan. Would love to get some Mathesons from that area to test. You can email me at alicefairhurst@gmail.com

Then no one of your family line has done DNA testing. I hope you will consider doing so. Since you are having problems sending email to me, what is your email address? I'll try sending email to you. --Alice

from James Matheson. A slight mistake in my GGG`s. the John Matheson I mentioned was my GGF not my GGGF. Now I am getting mixed up. Cheers.

from James Matheson. You were wondering where Canisbay was. Yes it is in the north of Caithness. As already mentioned my GGGF was born in Canisbay in 1779,however, I can go back one step further because his father, my GGGGF, was a William Mathison, spelt with an "i" rather than an "e". My GGGF married for a second time in 1816 and from this family a James, b.1820 and a George,b.1827 both emigrated to Geelong in Australia,an Alexander,b.1831, emigrated of New York about 1854.
From my GGGF, John M.,from the first marriage of his father William, two sons emigrated,James b.1856 to Detroit and John b.1850 to the Palmerston area of New Zealand. Hope this is of some use.

Hi, Alice. I'm so excited about your response. I ordered the yDNA67 for both of my brothers and the mt DNA for my full brother. One is a half brother. We have a mother in common. I'm at a brick wall with my father's lineage and my half brother is a "Smith" and there was a family fued at one point and no discussion of family ties. I'm very interested in whatever avenues can be explored. I was particularly hopeful of this one since we have received so many matches for both of them. Oh, yes... I did the testing through Family Tree DNA. I would be very appreciative of any assistance that you can provide. Thank you!!! :)
