I love this picture of my grandmother, Maude Coss (right) with her older sister Myrtle. The girls were only about eleven months apart in age, and they were probably 16-17 when this photo was taken around 1900. I'm sure it was taken before my grandmother married her first husband, Murray Carter, in 1901.

Yes, it seems unlikely that we are related at all, but I try to post inquiries whenever I see one of the names I'm researching "just in case".  I will try searching Cuss though to see if it turns up anything for me.  Thank you for the info and do enjoy your trip this year.

Hi, Brenda, Thanks for your message! We're probably not related, however, because my Coss ancestors (my grandmother and her sister, pictured here) lived in and around Lansing, Michigan. My grandmother told me that the Coss surname was English, but for years I couldn't find her ancestors. Just a year or so ago I finally discovered that the original name was spelled "Cuss" and that my grandmother's family had come from the neighboring counties of Wiltshire and Gloucestershire in England. I've been living in England since 1995, and later this summer my husband and I plan to visit Cricklade, Wiltshire where my grandmother's ancestors lived. Should be fun! Best of luck in your search!

These old photos are so precious.  Where were your Coss ancestors from?  My grandmother was a Coss in Pleasants Co, WV.  Her dad was John Thomas whose family moved to WV from Greene Co, PA around the mid-1800's.  His father was Samuel M. Coss, grandfather was Charles Coss.
