Hi everyone! I recently discovered that my Irish immigrant grandparents might have come over with the Irish American Colonization Company started by John and Walter Sweetman in Currie, Murray, MN.  Is anyone researching this bit of Minnesota history?  I'm looking for a list of colonists.  I believe the venture started around 1880 (applications) and emigrants were transported 1881-1884. I know that Walter Sweetman married a colonist's daughter, and became a prominent citizen in St. Paul, MN. My grandparents were Henry and Sarah Murphy.  Sarah's siblings might have come over with the IACC also: Stephen, James, and Anne Byrne.

Yes, I will be looking for naturalization records. specifically, declaration of intent as I understand they have the most information. I don't know if I can find them in one local such as state records or if I have to go to each county. I will be in MN for 2-3 weeks.

I am not positive, but I think they are available at the History Center in St. Paul. You should look over their website and perhaps contact them to make sure.

I think Myrna is referring to naturalization records.

On my way to MN soon. Where would I look for Declarations of Intent: state or county records?

Looking for any relatives with the surname of Goltz, Sorenson, or Rowe. My mother and maternal grandparents lived in Milaca, Mille Lacs Lake(sp?). My maternal grandmother was Venus Goltz, not sure what her maiden name was. Also looking for a family by the name of Morlock who rented grandma's house in Milaca back in the late '60s, early 70s.

Thank you Annelie!

I will add this information to my project about the Swedes of Pope County. I have some of it posted on my website, but not much of it yet. Eventually I hope to have it all there.

The main focus of my Minnesota research is in Pope County, specifically the Swedes who came there. Of course over time the family has spread, so I do a smattering of research all over the state. My husbands family is from southern Minnesota/northern Iowa, and I will be getting into that research as well.
