1903/Last Days of Pompeii

So, according to an article below, "Col Bill" met Henrietta Rosch backstage at "The Last Days of Pompeii". He was 'Stage Director'. I'm not sure if that means what it means, today or whether it means he was Stage Manager of a realllly big shooow. :)
