National Institute of Genealogical Studies (NIGS) & Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS) partnership.

Way to go Louise. Partnerships will help market NIGS and are essential for expansion. Just remember partnerships will come and go but stay focused on what lies ahead (based on my work experience and partnerships we had at CSA). There may be some critics but you are riding the wave of the future for NIGS.

Hi, I'm Theresa Hubbell and I currently live in Albany, Minnesota. I am working on the Social Media Class but have taken many other classes for American and German Records. I have always been interested in this site and now have the opportunity to jump in and try it. This course has enlightened me in many types of social media that I had not been aware before now.

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the web site?  I'm trying to complete an assignment and keep getting an internet error.

Hi, I'm Gwen Page and I am from Cottonwood Heights, Utah.  I'm taking the Social Media class via NIGS.  I am a public librarian and took a course a few years ago called Library 2.0 in which we covered a lot of the social media available at the time.  This course has exposed me to a few options not covered in the other course I took.  It has helped me understand better ways to work with others on the same family lines.

I'm currently taking the Social Media class which is the first I've taken through NIGS.  I have been aware of but not used several of the various social media avenues.  The course has given me a better understanding of the different ways to connect with others and a comfort level of how to use these media.

Hello, I'm Nancy Ellis and I live in Tucson, AZ.  I've been taking courses through NIGS for years; I have a PLCGS in American Records in 2005 and have been working on English, Irish, German and Canadian since then.  I'm taking the Social Media class now because I really don't use it that much and I definitely should!  I have been doing genealogy research since 2001 and have been taking on work from others in the last several years.

Hi, I'm Jack Bacon and I live in southern Ontario. I have joined this group after learning of it through the Social Media course with the NIGS. I have been taking courses with NIGS, on and off since 1998/99, when they were night school courses at the UofT, with Louise. Finally have a PLCGS in Canadian Records and will be taking more courses in the future. Have been interested in family history for quite a few years and find it a very addictive hobby. Hopefully when I retire I will have some spare time to pursue it more.

How great! I've felt that the one thing missing with the PLCGS program is the sense of community.  Until two months ago I worked full time and missed most of the discussion groups.  Now retired, I'm ready to get more involved in everything genealogy.  I'm almost finished with the PLCGS, taking my last required class and have a few electives left.  I too am taking the social media class and because of it have looked at Genealogy Wise after an absence of over 6 months and look what I found.

I’m going to try another online course at Pharos in the UK. It is a short course, 4 weeks, on DNA with Chris Pomery as administrator. Chris has published a number of books on the subject and is a contributor to the Guild of One Name Studies. Although NIGS has a course on genetics it has been a few years since I took this and there have been many changes regarding genealogy DNA.

Hello everyone.  I'm Cheryl Cayemberg and am currently living in Killeen, TX, but am originally from Pennsylvania.  I'm currently taking the Social Media course and am enjoying it immensely!  I've been using many of the types of social media that we've gone through, but I took the course to try to get more in depth about the various kinds of social media and am certainly enjoying it!
