Welcome!

Message from the Group Admin - In order to help us be able to organize and locate information, I think it would be helpful to try to limit the Comment Wall to introduce ourselves and our interests. When you have specific questions or research issues, please feel free to start a new Discussion thread if one does not already exist. Thanks, and happy hunting!

Hi Marv,
Welcome! Your question triggered a thought which may help . . .in 1711 part of Taunton was set aside as the town of Norton; in 1712, another part became the town of Dighton; in 1731, part of what was Taunton was established as the town of Raynham; and in 1735 part of Taunton was included in the newly formed town of Berkley. This creates a common occurance in MA history, where a family did not actually move, but the town they lived in changed. Often, those from the original town continued to report themselves as "of" that town while the vital records will be found in those of the newly formed town, so my suggestion is to check the VR's of Norton, Dighton, Raynham and Berkley. Let us know what you find!

Our Brick-Wall is Abijah Drake, b. abt 1735. Wedding cert. list him "Of Taunton" but there are no real connections with anyone there. Several in the family have as many ideas as to who Abijah's parents might be. If anyone on the group has seen any reference to Drake ANY WHERE in MA, please advise. Thanks!

Hi, Linda. I have several Sabins, myself, mostly in Vermont and New York, though I'll bet they are descendants of yours. What period were yours in Rehoboth? Mine cover mostly the 19th century, but there are two exceptions: Abigail Sabin, b. 1703 in Medfield, Massachusetts and Experience Sabin (1648-1728) who married Samuel BULLEN. By the way, I'm in Oklahoma City.

Greetings from Oklahoma. I am researching my Sabin(e) family, mostly from Rehoboth. I'm a descendant of the Billingtons who came over on the Mayflower. You know, the first guy who was hung for murder! :o)

Good morning! I am wondering if anyone as any thoughts on how to organize our information. Inspired by Kim Gyuricsko's request for info, and realizing how wide-ranging everyone's interests will be (especially when there are more members) my first thought is to have a discussion forum for each town/city in MA. What do you think?

To Kim Gyuricsko: Welcome to MA! Not knowing who your ancestors are/were, but seeing your interest in Hingham, the first stops I would recommend are the Hingham Historical Society (http://www.hinghamhistorical.org) and the Public Library (http://hinghamlibrary.org). Of course, it is a vacation, so don't forget the beach! ;-) If you are going to be in Boston, the New England Historic & Genealogical Society (a.k.a. NEHGS and online as http://www.newenglandancestors.org) is a terrific resource. I know I could spend a month there and not exhaust the resources. Enjoy your time here!

Our family immigrated from Poland/Russia to the South Shore. All worked in the shoe factories or fireworks factory. The towns are Abington, Rockland, Brockton, Hanover, Weymouth. Names are Stankiewicz, Juskiewicz/Juszkiewicz, Winiewicz and Gudalewicz. Any tidbit is appreciated!

I also have many ancestors who lived in MA. My family tree includes the names of RIPLEY, PARKER, SMITH, BAHLMANN. The Ripley's were numerous in MA & also in Ohio. I would appreciate any help from other researchers & will help others if I can. Great site, by the way!

Greetings to all! My ancestry is mostly in Massachusetts (Boston and south, through Cape Cod) going back to the Mayflower (5 so far), and some in Rhode Island and Canada (Loyalists) who returned to Massachusetts. I am also a member of NEHGS and Ancestry.com, so can help with online look-ups if needed. The surnames I have and am researching include COOK(E), SAMPSON, ALDEN, HOWLAND, TILLEY, NYE, NICKERSON, BURGESS, WICKSON, MARTIN, PIERCE, WHEELER, CAHOON, O'KILLEA (KELLY), ELDRIDGE, HANDY, MASKELL, WATERS, MOWRY, DROWNE, EDDY, GIBBS, and the list goes on. Please let me know if you are researching the same lines, or if I can help in any other way. I live in Wareham, MA and am pretty knowledgeable about local research and history.
