My husband's dad was born in Stokes Co., N.C. His surname was Rierson/Ryerson. I had my husband do an y-dna test & matches came back with Louw, Lowe, Low, Courtright. We believe that his relative, Stephen Ryerson b. approx 1762 was really a Lowe. My husband has matches with John Lowe, Jack Lowe, Paul Lowe all going back to Sebastian de Cortes b. approx 1550 but I have been unable to make the connections yet. No matches to any Ryerson/Riersons.

Margaret, I just got word (through Google Alerts) that you joined my Lowe group. Welcome! I am sure they came from/through England at some time. If you find any information related to my Lowes in North Carolina, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Ah, yes, you ought to be able to find the mid 19th century Lowe in the census beginning 1850. If he was born in 1833, he probably was living with his parents in 1850 and you can identify him. You will need an ancestry.com subscription, which is by the month.

I have traced my Lowe ancestry to the vicinity of Moate, County Westmeath, Ireland, 1811. One family there were Cromwellian gentry, and they were originally from just outside Kidderminster, Worcestershire. A small group of us are researching this family. \

Thought I saw something here about someone tracing North Carolina Lowes; there is a current discussion about them on the Lowe surname board at rootsweb.com .

I have traced my Lowe family back to the mid-late 1700s. Whilst they are mainly in the Manchester area of England I do know that in more recent times some have moved to Australia.

Details of all can be found on my website @ http://www.fergys.co.uk
