Troeter Family

I am researching my great grandfather George Troeter, originally from Germany, via New York to Loudoun County.  He married Amanda Bauers, fought for the South in the Civil War.  One of his daughters,Florence married a Thomas Smith and had a large number of children.  The family was from Lovettsville.   I am planning a trip to Loudoun County in September and would appreciate research suggestions to learn more.
