I have set the option to show/print surnames in UPPERCASE. When I enter a surname I enter it in mixed case - or try to. Usually it comes up on screen all in uppercase, regardless of what I type, and then when I go to save I get this message: "Surname:
You should use mixed case when entering names. (The names can be displayed in all uppercase if desired by using the option on the Customise > Data Format screen.)" On the very rare occasion it will let me type in mixed case and it actually shows as such, but if it is changing what I type, why am I then being slapped on the fingers for doing something I'm not.

Options - Customize - Data Format TAB - 3rd one down. See what your setting is! Could also turn off that format checking under tools - Potential problems - Standardization.

Enjoy

Also, it may be that your surnames have previously been entered in ALL CAPS. To adjust this, go to Options > Customize > Data Format tab > Letter Case of Surnames section > Apply button. This will change all SURNAMES to Surnames.
I've tried Optons > Customise > Data Format > Letter case of Surnames, and set 'Don't change what I enter', and that makes the Apply button inactive. I originally had Initial Caps set. The Apply button is only active with Initial Caps and UPPERCASE.
I've also tried Tools > Potential Problems > Standardisation and unchecked the last one 'Surname entered as all uppercase, but that's made no difference either.
Is there anything else I can try?

Hi Denise,
Since you have set your surnames option to Uppercase this is what ought to show at all times regardless of how you enter the surname for example Golding ought to be shown as GOLDING, so long as the first letter of the surname is in Uppercase on entry the rest I have found does not matter so long as it is the same not GoLdInG this is likely to cause an issue sooner or latter.
