Permalink Reply by John Stephen Adams on July 26, 2011 at 3:21pm Hi, my mother's side of the family is all from Southeastern Kentucky. Many of them came over the Cumberland through Pound Gap from Virginia and settled in Letcher and surrounding counties. I am looking for any info on Maggards, Mullins, Creech, Short, Vicars, Poston, and Webb. In particular I am looking for the parents of Sovilah Maggard maiden name Mullins. born 1825. She married John Henry Maggard. Many people have her parents as "Spotted" Dave Mullins and Virginia Short. But is that isnot accurate. They had a daughter named Surviller, but she wasn't born until around 1850. Sovilah is also known as Savilah and Cerviller. Many of them moved up to Carter, Rowan, and Elliot counties later on.
Any information would be appreciated,
John Adams
Permalink Reply by Debbie Winchell (Loving Dove) on September 25, 2011 at 11:04am Gloria, are you related to the Vandiviers in Mercer County? My ancestor was Richard Vandivier who married Elizabeth Peavler. His grandfather was Cornelius Vanderveer.
