Posting one of my "brick wall"  folks. You never know....

My James William Manning, born about 1861 (on March 7th). Claimed to be from Cork.

Year may be off....he said he lied about his age when entering the US, per his grand daughters.

Arrived in California 1879- filed for naturalization, citizenship etc

Married Letitia Watson, also Irish, in 1886. We think they met through her family, or knew each other from Ireland. She was most likely Prostestant.

Claimed to be a veteran of the Spanish American War, but I cannot locate a record.

6 children, 3 surviving to adulthood, all raised Catholic. They were Watson, Joseph, John Wilfred, Thomas, Letitia, Myrtle.

They lived in Oakland CA for some years, then settled in San Francisco, where he died in 1927

I'd love to find birth info for James, or any info I haven't seen yet, especially from before he left home.
