My great-great grandfather Nelson Reed McKee and his wife Sarah Ann Sunderland lived in Monticello, White County, with three children: Florence Elizabeth (my great-grandmother), Charles Preston, and Benjamin Franklin. One night in June of 1879, Nelson Reed McKee took off from his home and was never seen again. His jewelry and watchmaking shop was inventoried by his brother, who came over from Ohio. The brother, Charles McKee, found that the shop was intact, with none of the customer's goods missing.

Nelson Reed McKee showed up later in Wisconsin.
