I'm a brand new member to GW, and a real newbie to genealogical research. I read I should start a new thread if I expect/hope for at least one response, so here it is.

I'm attempting to verify (or de-bunk) a very strong family story that we are directly descended from Dr. Samuel Fuller, John Alden and Priscilla Mullins, and Richard Warren. My brother's middle name was Alden for that reason, and my father was Richard Warren Fuller. An uncle also had Alden for a middle name.

In fact, BOTH sides of my family have strong Alden connections. My mother's side actually had 'artifacts' that have since gone missing.

Through several sites, I have been tracing my Fuller line. To date, I have gotten back to my gggggrandfather, Timothy Fuller, born 1751 in Rehoboth, MA, married to Molly Medbury. I am having real difficulty getting substantiated info beyond their marriage date of 1760 0r 1763.

I have found several strong candidates that give me leads possibly back to Capt. Samuel Fuller of Salem, MA who married Mary Ide (a twin) in 1673 in Rehoboth. I'd really like to 'nail down' the validity of the connections after Timothy and Molly. I have read that Molly could be a proper name as well as a pet name for Mary or Margaret, but nothing solid shows for any of those.

Has anyone here any connections to these names?

Thanks in advance!

Well, I have one: Benjamin Fuller, b. 14 March 1713 in Rehoboth, to Benjamin Fuller (of Salem, MA and Lebannon, CT) and Tabitha Wheaton, who was born in Rehoboth in 1687.

Thanks for the response, Gary. I'll try to follow those names to see if there's a connection.

I noticed your name in another thread- I forget which- and noticed you're looking into Fuller, Clark and Bowen surnames. They are all included in my connections:

Fuller (obviously)

Clark- my middle name after my mother's maiden name. They're from VT, but there are Massachusetts connections in the early years.

Bowen- IF I'm following the right leads after Tim and Molly- I have Sarah Bowen, wife of Robert Fuller, SR, born 1615,6 in Southampton, Eng. Sarah born 1618- the record I found says born in Weymouth, MA, but seeing that the Mayflower landed 1620... well... Weymouth was still in the future by several tears, eh? Weymouth, England would be my preference, but I have nothing solid on that.

Robert died May 10, 1706 in Rehoboth

Sarah died Feb 14, 1675,6 also Rehoboth

Do they connect with any of your people?

BTW- before sending this off, I did a quick check of my sources- it looks like my Sarah Bowen may be your Sarah Bowen! I followed Benjamin and Tabitha back a few generations and found Sarah. So far, this is all unsubstantiated, but a lead is better than no lead.

My Clarks emanate from the emigrant James Clark (Clerke), b. 1608 in  London, England and d. 19 Dec. 1674 in Stratford, CT. I have several of his descendants, but my line is:

John Clerke, Esq. (1385-1420)

John Clerke (1415-1480)

John Clerke (1440-1497)

James Clerke (1485-1554) Wrotham, Kent, England

George Clark (1510-1558) Ford Hall, Wrotham, Kent, England

James Clarke (1540-1614)

William Clark (1561/1572-1610) East Fairleigh, Kent, England

James Clark (1608-1674) London, England & Stratford, CT

James Clark (1641-1712), New Haven, CT

John Clark

Mary Clark (1712-1798) who married Jacob Bates, Plymouth, MA

My Bowens are the same as yours, from Sarah Bowen and Robert Fuller, on back to Leuan Bowen (abt 1372) and prior to that, they were all using Welsh patronyms. The father of Leuan Bowen, for example, was Llwelyn ap Owain, whose father was Owen ap Einion, and so forth, back to Cuhelyn "Fardd" ap Gwynfardd, who was born abt. 1090 in Cemais, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Of course, I don't have documentation on any of that, so take it with a grain of salt.  ;)

Then Hello, 'cousin'!

I want to make sure I'm on the right track with the Bowen line. I have Sarah's parents:

Richard Bowen/ Anne Born- Glamorganshire, Wales

Sir James Bowen/ Eleanor Griffith- married Llwyngwair, Pembroke, Wales

that's as far as I've traced them to date. I've been trying to concentrate on the Fuller line mostly.

I had absolutely no idea there was a Welsh connection in my family and am not at all familiar with the Welsh language, so it's really an eye-opening experience. I expect there are many of them just waiting for me to discover them.

The Clarks are also on the back burner for now. I'll be happy to share them with you as I get more info.

Thanks for your responses.

Hello, Cousin.  :)

Yes, that's correct, Richard Bowen and Ann Born.

Sir James was a son of Mathias Bowen and Mary Philps (Phylips) and the line goes back from there:

James Bowen (1480) & Mary Hearle (Hale)

Owen Bowen (1453) & Jonet Llywelyn

Gwilym Bowen (1412)

Leuan Bowen (1372)

and from here on back, it's a succession of patronyms, as I mentioned. You can find it all on my Ancestry.com page: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/37910061/family

If you think the Welsh connection is a shocker, wait until you see what lies ahead. The Bowens are a "gateway" to nobility, including the Welsh Marcher Lords, the Earls of Arundel, and, when you reach Richard Fitzalan, 10th Earl of Arundel & Surrey, you'll find his line were the "Plantagenet" Kings of England.  :)

Oh, I almost forgot to give you directions:

At MaryPhilips (Phylips), continue back through Elizabeth Griffith to Jane Stradling. Jane is the true "gateway ancestor." From Jane, go back through Thomas Stradling, Henry Harry Stradling, Jane Beaufort, to Henry de Beaufort and Alice Fitzalan. It gets veeeeery interesting from that point onward.

Aiiii!!! So, do I inherit a castle or anything? LOL!

Ooops, need a membership to see your page.

Darn! I was afraid that would be the case. But, I happen to have a Plan "B." It's little less elegant, but, if you follow the Father and Mother links backward, you can get there:

Well, I'm still waiting for mine, so...  ;)

AMAZING!!! Wow! Just took a trip back in time and space!  That must have been a LOT of digging. How long did that take you?

Among the Family 'legends', I have always been told that we go back to Sir Francis Drake. I am truly hoping to find evidence one way or the other.

I have been learning some amazing facts I would never have expected. Like a gg aunt who died in 1913 at 77 a week after being injured in a motorcycle accident!!!

Once I stumbled onto it, back in 1997, via Rootsweb, it "only" took a few days, as opposed to the years I'd spent going through old books at the historical society library.Of course, some it still lacks verification, but the thing about the royals and nobles is that, being historical people, there has been much written about them, thus it's no problem verifying their lineages. The only point in question is where it connects to ours, but, I'm fairly confident of the connection. Some twits like to argue that no Americans could possibly be descended from European royalty, but, as you'll see, it was inevitable, given the people who came over on the Mayflower. If the first white people in the Americas were descended from royalty, then of course, their many descendants, centuries later, would be also. Duh!

Hmmm...I have yet to find Sir Francis Drake lurking in there, but, I suppose it's possible. Heck why not, with half the monarchs of medieval Europe in there?

Sounds like your great-grand aunt was an adventurous old lady!  ;)

Back in 2000, I bumped into a guy in Arizona (online) who also shares these same ancestors and, together, we unearthed connections to the first Kings of the Scots, as well as the Marcher Lords and the High Kings of Ireland and, in all of that, we were distant cousins, all the way through, being descended from brothers and sisters every step of the way. We parted company, however, when he wanted to focus his research only on royalty and couldn't understand why I'd devote any time to my other ancestors. I told him that, to me, every one of my ancestors is of equal significance, as, without any one of them, I wouldn't exist.
