The brick wall I have is Marx Vernon BLOCK (c1838 - Alsace-Lorraine, France, 1902 - Temora, Australia). All I know is that he was born in France and Came to Australia in c 1860. He married and had a number of children including my great-grandmother. I hope someone can help with this one. I have been stuck on this one for many years. I am not sure where the best places to go for info (online?) would be and I do not understand more than a few words of Frnch.
Cheers

I recently put up three posts about researching people from Alsace-Lorraine, two of which might be helpful to you, I think. The date of birth means that he was born before the 1870 annexation, and his parents would have had to choose to be French or German. Check these posts and see if you might not have a bit of luck searching the optants lists.
