What makes a person famous?  What qualifies a memorial for famous status on FAG?

For example.  Baltzer Culp is the founder of New Somerset Ohio (and my ancestor) and is qualified as a First Family of Ohio Lineage society originating Ancestor.

Does this make him Famous?

quoting from their FAQ: "An individual is more likely to be designated as 'famous' on the Find A Grave site if he or she is well known outside of his or her local community". There is an approval process.
That probably fits Baltzer, BUT if you mark him as famous you loose your rights to that memorial! They become the 'property' of FAG. All future updates to the memorial have to go through Admin. Same goes for all the military memorials entered by admin from the US Veteran's Affairs. I cannot gain ownership of my own grandfather's memorial.
If any one feels that this is incorrect, please chime in.
apparently they are quite picky. i requested "famous" status for a state politician who was very well known and loved. but they declined, saying he wasnt "famous" ... best way to find out is to try it and see what they say

edit: i looked for my mail, they said: Thank you very much for submitting a memorial to Find A Grave. You indicated that William Reinstein should be considered for inclusion on the 'famous' pages. Unfortunately, William Reinstein does not appear to fit our criteria for a 'famous' listing. You can learn about Find A Grave's famous listings, including what we look for in a 'famous' entry, by reading our 'Famous FAQ'. You can jump directly to our FAQ by following the link below" yadda yadda

he was a state rep. so, who knows. shrugs
Update on my previous statement about military entries; I put my statement to the test and failed [happily]! I clicked on the Edit tab of my grandfather's memorial and asked to add his birth and death place. In closing I asked if it was possible to have his memorial transferred. Just a few minutes ago I received confirmation that it had been transferred.
Cool!
congrats! alway glad to see memorial make it "home" :)
I had a submission rejected because the subject "does not have a Wikipedia page" (I'm not making that up.) Googeling his rather unique name in quotes gets you over 173,000 hits! It's been suggested that on that site "famous" actually should be replaced with the words "pop culture".
