Battle of Britain Roll of Honour

'The Few' were 2353 young men from Great Britain and 574 from overseas, pilots and other aircrew, who are officially recognised as having taken part in the Battle of Britain. Each flew at least one authorised operational sortie with an eligible unit of the Royal Air Force or Fleet Air Arm during the period 10 July to 31 October 1940. 544 lost their lives during the period of the Battle, and these are marked by an asterisk. A further 791 were killed in action or died in the course of their duties before the wars end, which is also noted.

Powell Flight Lieutenant R P R British 111
Powell Sergeant S W M British 141

I invite you to read and join my discussion in the Discussion Forum. Because Powell is a rather common name, we will find Powells scattered all across the US whose date of immigration will vary widely. I am hoping to find others who are familiar with a line that settled first in Robeson County, North Carolina in the 1700s and later migrated into Florida and Mississippi.

Kathleen,
I'll put this into the database. My POWELLs were in NE, too. I'll poke around a bit and see what I can find for you.

Hey Jeannine,
You should find a few POWELLs in the Long Island Genealogies. Not my lines, but I've seen several in there that helped others.

Just by way of very quick intro ... I'm researching the descendants and ancestors of Pearsall Brush POWELL (b 1798) s/o William POWELL and Abigail BRUSH of New York. I'm especially interested in continuing with William's ancestry - seeing as it took me over 13 years just to find him!

Hello Gary, and welcome!
I have two Levi POWELLs, but they are from VA and about a century before yours. Perhaps you may connect to one of them as your researches reveal further grandparents. I hope so.

Hi, Im Gary Powell from Tx., and Ok. My Powell lineage is from Ky, Tn, NC, and Va. I have researched back to my 3rd GGF "Levi Powell" born 1799 in NC, and died around 1862 in Knox, Co. Ky. His second wife was Ann Law's, first wife is unknown, whom he had most of his children, but My 2nd GGF he supposedly had with Ann. Just looking for his parents and any other info available.

Betty Jean, thank you. I'll plug these into the database here and keep track of any potential matches. I'll inform you here when they show up. Interesting is that I have Somerset County, MD ancestors, too. However, they are DIXONs.

Kathleen, I'll add your data to my database and we'll keep it on hand for possible matches. Meanwhile, to speed things along, place a comment with your information in the RootsWeb surname POWELL. There may be another rellie there.
