Genealogy Wise

The Genealogy & Family History Social Network

This is a continuation of a discussion I started in a blog I posted. This history has already captivated one member [besides myself] of GenealogyWise - GeneJ. I have benefited already from his insights [as GeneJ pointed out, sometimes all it takes is another pair of eyes].

I am reaching out for help because it has come that time when I realize I need to. Please read the blogs already posted about Julia Rivers McClain, and if any person, place or thing jumps out at you, please let me know. Thanks.

Oh, Gene, I was trying to follow your advice. I must admit, however, that I do get sidetracked from time to time. The problem is that I have not been able to come up with any additional documentation on Russell Felder, Sr. Nothing at all, except for what I have already presented here. While I subscribe to Ancestry.com, I also use LDS, GenForum, Rootsweb, and other sites. Nada.

The only hint I got was from the LDS site, and that caused me untold grief. I found Foraker Felder, but the person who entered the tree there had everything right about him except his parents. I thought I had the wrong person and deleted him from my tree. I later found out that I had the right person after all, and had to redo all that I had already done. A bitter lesson learned.

As I said, I used to be in touch with a person who lived in South Carolina, and they gave me information directly from the records maintained there. That source is no longer available, so I have to place my reliance on Ancestry now. While Ancestry is good, it does not contain all public information records. For example, I found Jalura Glover's information on the LDS research site http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start.

I am not giving up, even though I might be discouraged. This is especially trying since this is not my major line of research and I have similar problems with the other lines as well. Thanks again, Spivey
Thanks, Gene. Bookmarked the sites. Even my bookmarks are becoming better organized : ). The only one that didn't work is www.familyhistory1010.com.

I guess I have been remiss in not sharing more about my research with you. I have a website at Yahoo! Geocities: www.geocities.com/spiveyedwards. Warning: I have not updated it much since I started doing research again. Spivey
Progress had been made. If you noticed, when I did that family group sheet, I listed William Felder [born 1919] as the son of Russell and Gelura. I have since found that Russell and Gelura [should be Jalura] were both deceased when William was born. So, ergo, William could not have been Jalura's child. As I said, I need to update that site, but right now I am collectng the documentation to substantiate what I list on my Geocities page. That page is where I try to represent the facts as accurately as I can.

I did not have the Felder Family tree on ancestry before, but now that I put one up there, I am finding a wealth of information. [The down side is that I will have to re-learn HTML coding since my Geocities site is coded in HTML. But, winter's coming to the Great Northeast, so I will have something to occupy myself with.]

I would like your opinion about my Geocities site: am I providing too much information? I thought perhaps I should cut back on the amount of information provided, but then again, that is the only information the public has access to [my Ancestry trees are private trees]. I could use a second opinion.

Again, I have no words that are adequate to thank you for your patience, assistance and, most of all, persistence in the face of my shortcomings. You are a breath of fresh air.
