The LDS church has put up a new site with lots of useful tools in the Sweden division. Includes lists of parishes and place names.

The research wiki has moved to

http://familysearch.org/learn/wiki

This reference has an article on each parish (probably as of Johansson's book, before the last round of consolidation) with some useful details. Alas, not all are filled out with details. Genealogical word list and geographic helps are also included. One handy thing, it is available 24/7.

Hi my name is Colleen and just joined this group as I have been at a roadblock looking for my grandfathers family nad his records in Sweden. What is the LDS church? Thank you.

Welcome to the Sweden Group.

Sorry Coleen. LDS church refers to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or Mormon church. They have one of the largest collections of genealogical materials and sites and operate FamilySearch web sites and lots of free-to-anyone FamilySearch family history centers scattered around the US and elsewhere in the world. At the centers you can rent films of records not yet on line to do research.  These centers are widely used by researchers everywhere.

The site I posted is the research wiki which is a user-augmented, online reference to all things genealogical. For example, it has an article about each Swedish parish (some articles do not yet have much data in them). Go take a look. It is free and available 24/7 if you are a night owl.

YOUR Grandfather.

You say you have encountered a brickwall with your grandfather. Please post what you know about him and let our members take a shot at it. That is what we do here.  Perhaps the best place to post would be on the discussion for the first letter of his last name. Give as many facts as you have.
