Her husband was Theodore Lyon. Children are:

This has been driving me nuts, because I should be able to find her in the 1860/1870 census and it seems all the Carries/Carolines are fairly well documented through census reports. Intended to go to Michigan during the summer, but that just didn't happen. Won't happen for a while. Tried to request an obituary from area papers with no response.

Wish I could find a John and Elizabeth Conklin that would match, too. A cousin of mine believes the family was of the Conklins in Ramapo, NY.

And, if it helps any, here's the link to my public tree on Ancestry:

Another possible clue is that Georgianna Lyon was probably born in Kansas..

Hi-

Do you know where Theodore and Caroline married? Is Elizabeth her middle name? what other information do you have on her parents?

Did John Conklin fight in the Civil War?
Not sure where they married. I would guess that Elizabeth is her middle name, but I really don't know that for sure. Always suspected it was. Wish I knew something about her parents. All I know is from the death certificate. I'd love to connect her to her parents through a census report or other records.
1880 census says New York.

Name: Caroline Lyon
Home in 1880: Newark, Gratiot, Michigan
Age: 25
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1855
Birthplace: New York
Relation to Head of Household: Wife
Spouse's Name: Theodore
Father's birthplace: New York
Mother's birthplace: New York
Neighbors: View others on page
Occupation: Keeping House
Marital Status: Married
Race: White
Gender: Female

Children have her listed as being born in New York in census reports after her death as well.
Definitely wish I could be in two places at once. ;) Yeah, that's the clue alright. 1930 census says Kansas as well, but the rest of the census reports say Michigan, one says Nebraska.

Should call the county then about deeds. I don't know what the deal is, but generally when I've called county or local offices in Michigan, I'm run around in circles and people aren't very helpful. I'll let you know if I get anywhere. It's funny, it's almost without fail, too.

Thank you so much for all the tips! :) Really appreciate it. :D This is my direct maternal line (Anna is my great great great grandma), so it would be nice to get a little farther considering the census reports should be there.
Okay, may be getting somewhere thanks to your help! :)

I didn't mention calling the county courthouse in Kansas, because I had already emailed a couple librarians in Kansas who had the book. I wanted to see about that first. Got a reply today that Caroline and Theodore are indeed in there. No more information, but that he was going to mail me a copy of the page of it for free. Definitely going to try calling the county office tomorrow and see if they can get me a photocopy of the original records (read on the Pattawatomie County website that the book was kind of falling apart)--if they have marriage returns, etc. That would be just wonderful.

I didn't take any other steps yet. So exciting! It's something. I've only been researching my family history for three years and have taken many strides, but this one and Albert Coss have really thrown me for a loop. In both cases, both of them should appear in certain census reports, as I've said, and haven't been able to pull any tricks out of the bag to find them. With the latter, there's so much in the Washington Digital Archives. It's puzzling to me that I can't find anything else of any value in there.
Well, I have the marriage date.

5 Oct 1873

Married by O.E. Gould; Theodore Lyons, 29 and Carrie Conklin, 18 (Pottawomie County Kansas Marriages 1856-1886).

That would make her two years older, which matches the 1880 census as well as her headstone and means her death certificate is two years off.
You mean Theodore, right? Yes, they had a daughter Georgianna, but I think they may have moved to Michigan by then. Good thing to double check.

Indeed, same family...

Thanks for the pension file on Orlando. I had been looking through the John Conklins on Footnote the other night. Kind of sent me in the direction of a theory I've been formulating in the last day or so.

I suspect Caroline might be from this family, but I have only subjective piecing together to back me up on this...

In 1850, the Gould family is still in Maine. Can't find him exactly in the 1860 census. Doesn't seem like anyone has taken on Orlando Gould's family.

John H. Conklin seemingly disappears after the 1870 census. Wondering if maybe these are the other younger kids. A distant cousin seems to think that Caroline was from Rockland County, NY (which is the only place where no Goulds are pretty much), but I'm just not seeing the evidence for that. It seems those Conklin families are accounted for.

Oh wait... this is interesting. Doesn't fit perfectly by the names, but it looks really promising...

Have a look at that. I don't know why the feeling is so strong on this family, but now it does seem to fit. Ironic, because I'm a descendent of Thomas Sayer, one of the founders of Southampton and now here's my direct maternal line, perhaps, in Southold. Very strange.
ROFL... it does say she married Theodore Lyons on the page. Oh man. I can't be that ridiculous. I'm not even sure how I missed that. :-O 3 or so years of searching and it's been in this book all this time!

... and it says Georgianna, too. Oh my word.
Oh, good idea! Thanks very much. I can't believe this is solved. I'm in an utter state of disbelief. :O
