Hello everyone! My Jones are from Missouri: John B and Rebecca Jones. Their son William Benton Jones is my 3rd great-grandfather.

If you think you might be part of my tree, I'd be happy to check it out. I am a member of ancestry.com, and I use Family Tree Maker.
Greetings Jen'e. My Jones are too from Missouri; Texas County area. My Grandfather named Tom Jones who had five children: Dempsey, Lourie, Vada, Harold and Norman. Since you are a member of ancestry.com, am I part of your tree? If you need more information, I will provide you with that information via personal email correspondence. My email address is: buzz.jones@travis.af.mil
I can trace my Jones back to the 1700's and they started in N. Carolina, but ended up in St. Francois and Ste Genevieve Counties, Missouri. My Great Grandfather was William Henry Jones, married to Maggie Campbell. I have all the information back to John Jones 1720. Anyone out there that has the same info, contact me. Elaine Healy
Hi, I'm new to genealogy and have immediately come upon a wall. Grandmother, Georgianna Jones married Milton Richardson. Her parents were John Rhys (or Reese) Jones and Annie Cartwright. Because Reese is buried with Morgan Jones and his wife, (Georgi) Anna (possibly Davis) we assume they are Reese's parents. I'm not able to find my Morgan and Anna on any census and have no idea when Reese might have come over to the Starke County Ohio area. Anyone researching the Ohio Jones - I'd love to have some input.
Thanks
Greetings All

My Jones ancestor is William Henry Jones who married Paratine Saxon.

Wm Henry was born in Selma, AL Feb 16, 1862, s/o Ezekiel Jones & Sarah E. ? ( Ezekial served in 38th Regiment, Alabama Infantry C.S. A.) They had 6 children, 4 of them died before 1900. The two surviving children were William Henry & Roxanna. William's brother "Trus", shown in the 1870 census, age 5 mos., is not present in the 1880 Census. Ezekiel b. abt 1839 & died Apr 5, 1920 in Conecuh Co., Ala. (Alabama Deaths, 1908-59; Conecuh County, Vol 15, Roll 2, pg# 7345)

William's sister, Roxanna Jones, b. abt 1866 m. J. E. Beasley before 1887. In 1900, Roxana and her children, Alabama, age 13 and Charles E. age 5, are living with Ezekiel & Sarah in Gravella, Conecuh Co. AL. Roxana died 1938 in Conecuh Co. AL .

From what I have been able to cull from various sources, it appears that Alabama Beasley (1886/7 to 1978) married on Jan 8, 1905 to a Mr. Oliver Daniel Sanders ( b. Apr 2, 1883-d. Aug 8, 1976), Callihan, Conecuh Co., Al and had about 10 children:

Oliver C. Sanders, 1907
Leola Sanders , 1908
Charles Belton Sanders, 1911
Bracy G. Sanders, 1913
Olivia E. Sanders, 1915
Ernest Burson Sanders, 1918-1988
Bama L. Sanders, 1919
Claude E. Sanders, 1921
Anna E. Sanders, 1926
Alvanson B. Sanders, 1928

Wm Henry 1st married Georgiana Vestie Pickren on Mar 4, 1880 but she died Jan 23, 1881.
They had one child, a son, Hillary A. Jones, on Jan. 7, 1881, Conecuh Co., AL. Hillary was about 2 weeks old when his mother passed away. Hillary was raised by Sarah E. Jones, his grandmother, Conecuh County, Ala.

Hillary Jones married just shy of his 17th birthday to Rhodia "Rhody" Etheridge, Dec 20, 1897. From this marriage, were born William "Willie" b. abt 1908, David "Dave" b. abt 1910 and Joseph "Joe" Jones b. abt 1912. Rhodia died Jan 13, 1923. His grandfather, Ezekiel is living with them.
Year: 1920;Census Place: Gravilla, Conecuh, Alabama; Roll: T625_9; Page: 13B; Enumeration District: 44; Image: 1070.

Hillary married again on Apr 2, 1928 to Lizzie Etheridge (not sure of her kinship to Rhodia) and they had Henry, Ruby, Lewis & John Jones.

I have found family histories which show Wm HENRY as Wm HUGH Jones, s/o of Ezekiel & Sarah E. Jones, s/o "Hugh Jones & J/Genetta Wooley." They have mixed up two familes.

Note his first name on the CSA record.

When I first started researching my family tree I called a genealogy society in Wales to ask where I should start. When the gentleman asked me what surname I was researching...I paused, knowing that Jones was a very common name in Wales. When I got the courage to say "Jones", the gentleman laughed hysterically for an uncomfortably long time and then politely informed me that it was a lost cause with as little information as I had at the time.

It turned out for the best because the ancestor who I believed was from Wales, Marshall Jones, was actually from Hull, Yorkshire, England. Apparently it was his grandfather who was from Wales.

Right now I am trying to trace Marshall's siblings (Herbert, Charles and Martha), find more information about his parents, William and Sarah (nee Marshall) Jones, and confirm whether the John and Margaret Jones of Caernervonshire, Wales are indeed his grandparents.

I am looking forward to sharing the search with other Joneses.
I am descended from Wallace Jones & Elizabeth Fritz. Wallace b. ca. 1742 VA, d. 1827 Miami co. OH. Elizabeth b. ca. 1743, d. 1830 Miami co. OH. They had (among others) Wallace Jones, Jr b. 6 Mar 1773 Newberry co. SC, d. 20 Sep 1854 Miami co. OH. Wallace Jr m. Rachell Paty/Patty 29 Nov 1794 Newberry co SC, b. 27 Dec 1774, Wrightsboro, GA d. 16 May 1828, Miami co. OH.

Hope to find other Jones descendants of these same people.
The earliest Jones I've found in my line is Charles Jones (or Carl Tschons), b. 11 June 1782 in Pennsylvania, d. 7 May 1855 in Pennsylvania, m. Margaretha. Since I've also found his name as Carl Tschons in the church records, I'm not sure if he was German, English, Welsh, or something else. It could just be that because it was a German Lutheran church that they entered the German version of his name. And, like all of us, with so little information Jones can be a really difficult name to research. Charles and Margaretha had a son Jacob, b. 30 October 1818 in West Brunswick Twp., Schuylkill Co., PA, d. 27 January 1893 in Washington Twp., Schuylkill Co., PA, m. 23 January 1842 to Sarah Martz.
I am Elaine Martin and my gggrandfather was James Jones. He was born in 1822 in Alabama, possibly Pike County. He married Ellen Frances Hicks who was born in 1828 in Georgia. The first sight of him is in 1850 on the Pikes Co., Ala census, living with wife's family, Isham & Martha Hicks.

Ellen Frances died in 1902 in Columbia Co., Ark. and is buried in Shongaloo Cemetery, Webster Parish, La. James & Ellen had four children: Savanna, Titus Taswell (my ggrandfather), Ellen and William "Willie".

James enlisted in Co. E, 2nd Georgia Cavalry Regiment in 1862 at Griffin, Ga. for the Civil War. In October of 1863 he was captured at Sugar Creek. He was taken first to Louisville, Ky. and then to Camp Morton Indiana on October 21, 1863. He died there as a POW on March 10, 1864 of erysipelas. Sometime after the war, James Jones and the other 1615 soldiers that died at Camp Morton were transferred to Greenlawn Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana. Unfortunately this was not a permanent resting place for the soldiers remains. The cemetery became abandoned and neglected due to the fact that the White River bordered the cemetery. Erosion became a major factor and many of the graves were in danger of washing away. In October, 1931, the bodies of the soldiers were moved to a common grave in Crown Hill Cemetery. A marker at the spot is inscribed "Remains of 1616 unknown Confederate Soldiers that died at Indianapolis while prisoners of war". This marker is somewhat misleading since the names are known. There is a marker at the old Greenlawn Cemetery (now Garfield Park)that lists the names of the soldiers.

James Jones parents/siblings are unknown. On the Pike County, Ala census, living near James Jones is a Freman and Amy Jones, who appears to be the right age to be his parents, but that is the only hint I have of who his parents might be. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.
My JONES immigrant ancestor (Frank Reeve Jones) came to the US (through Canada into Idaho and then Washington state) around 1870 (one of his brothers also immigrated around that time). Until I started doing genealogy research on this branch of the family we had no idea where they were from, except that we just assumed they were Welsh and family lore said from Chillicothe, OH. However, I soon discovered that my Jones immigrant had married into a Welsh family and their son had married a woman born near Chillicothe, but Frank Reeve Jones was actually born in Kent, England. Since then I've discovered that his father was born in Shropshire and traced the family back to the late 1700s, all in Shropshire, but if they were from Wales originally (I know Shropshire is next-door), I haven't found that yet.

Anyone else working on a Shropshire Jones family?
My Jones line starts out with Jeremiah Jones who built a house in 1795 in what was then Gile Co, VA but now is located in Mercer Co, WV ~ and the house is still standing and people are living in it. Jeremiah was approximately 18 years old when he built the house, then went to Franklin Co, VA, where he married Susannah Agee on 2 Oct 1800. They had 9 or 10 children and the youngest, Helen, had a son named James Hiley Jones, born 4 March 1846. Family story says she was raped and conceived Hiley, thus he carries her maiden name. She later married John Bolen / Bowling and had at least two more sons.

James Hiley Jones married Martha Malinda Blankenship, 24 Nov 1867 and their first daughter, Marinda Alice B was born in 1869 in Mercer Co, WV. Martha was pregnant when she and Hiley married and she had a daughter Julia, born 1867, named after one of her sisters who lived and died in Giles or Mercer Co. The family then moved to Gallia Co, OH, where they had Eliza Helen Josephine, Sarah Clarissa, William Albert. They moved to Jackson Co, WV (where many of Martha's family settled and are buried) where Edward Preston and Alonzo Alon (1878 ~ my line) were born (information from Census Records ~ can't find birth certificates). Then Hiley bought land at the head of Eighteen Mile Creek in Putnam Co, Wv, where Lillie Martha, John Clinton Clyde, Emmett Franklin and Harriet "Hallie" Frances Mae (1890) were born (no record of births found).

Grandpa Lon married Virgie Lee Withrow in May 1903 and their daughter, Elsie Myrtle Jones, born 3 Sept 1904 on 18 Mile Creek at the old home place, is my grandmother who shared so many stories about her growing up years and the family. Grandpa Hiley and Grandma Martha had a total of 81 grandchildren, something my grandmother was proud to share with others once I gathered the information for her while working on the family tree.

I have included a picture of the house Jeremiah built in WV, taken in the summer of 2007. I've also included a picture of Grandpa Hiley and Grandma Martha with 9 of their 12 children, taken in 1899, 2 died as infants and Alice died in childbirth in May 1896, as did her son Clarence. The last picture is actually two pictures put together as one, showing Grandpa Hiley and Grandma Martha by the old home place on 18 Mile Creek, now torn down ~ they are buried in the Martin Cem on 18 Mile creek, in a row of Jones from front to back, some not having markers (Penningtons and others buried their, too, as are John Alvin and Victoria Martin Withrow, Virgie's father and step-mother ~ her mother was Mariah Matilda J Higginbotham and died when Virgie was 7, buried in the Higginbotham Cem at the Owl's Den on 18 Mile Creek).

My gr-grandparents, Lon and Virgie, eventually moved to Red House, WV, where he had a store at the fork of Rt 62 and Rt 34, now torn down. My grandmother married Floyd C Tucker when she was 15 and my mother, Velma Lucille, one of 5 children, was born in Red House but they moved permanently to Columbus, OH, in 1927 where the 3 surviving children grew up and married. Their daughter Helen and son Floyd Jr are buried in the Maden Cem at the top of Red House Hill in Putnam Co, WV.

If anyone is related, I have a family group started on Geni.com (free accounts) and would be glad to add you once I get your family link ~ can't add people anymore without adding a person's family line to the tree, then I can put in your email and send you an invitation. LOTS of names, as many of the family as continued to add others so the site has grown a lot in one year (I now have 2,773 family members and 100K + blood relatives).

Hi! I can trace my Jones' line to Henry Jones b. 17 Oct 1836 d. 23 Aug 1889 East Point, VA married Sarah Catherine Hulvey. They had 11 children of which my ggrandmother Elizabeth Caroline Jones Carrier was the 6th. Elizabeth was the heir of her uncle Willis Jones' estate in Appleton City, MO. I have several family stories as told by my grandmother, Virginia Lee Carrier Heiserman. I can trace Henry Jones to parents Edmund Jones of Albermarle Co., VA & Lucy S. Morris of Greene Co., VA. I have some guesses after that (perhaps John Jones of Kenawha Co., VA), but nothing solid. Lots of Jones & Morris from that area. If anybody can help, I would love to share info.
