Job Jenkins
I'm looking for my husband's great grandfather. Job Jenkins who came from Pontlytoon, Wales around 1881 with his wife Hannah Minton Jenkins. They had two sons in Wales, Lee & John who died in a measel epidemic. Hannah was pregnant with their third child when they immigrated to America. They lived in the Allegheny City Section of Pittsburgh, PA which is now called the North Side of Pittsburgh.
She had a son in 1882 naming him Edward Garfield. The family story was that she saw President Garfield's funeral train passing through Pittsburgh, PA when she was in labor and said if her baby as a boy, she'd name him after the President. However, when I researched this, the dates do not mesh.
Later Hannah had 2 more sons, William Lee and another John. I do not have their birth dates, yet. Job & Hannah moved to Follansbee, West Virginia where Job worked in the Follansbee Steel Mill. Hannah was the cook for the executives of the company and their guests. She was well know for her cooking abilities.
Later, Job went out west to the mines, leaving his wife and children in West Virginia. I do not know which state he went to, nor the name of the mine, nor what kind of mine he worked for. Job was murdered in an ambush while bringing the payroll to the mine. I do not have the date of his murder, nor where he is buried.
Nothing is known of their son John. I have a picture of Hannah in 1932 with her grandson Alan Minton, his wife Jessie, and their oldest son, Alan Lee Jenkins. I also have her funeral bill which her grandsons, Alan & Lee paid. On the bill, it had her name as Hannah Boyd Jenkins. I haven't found out why her middle name was changed from Minton to Boyd.
So, I want to find out these things: Where Job went in the west, including the mine he worked for and the place of his death and burial; Any information about John Jenkins; and Why & when Hannah's middle name was changed from Minton to Boyd. Thanks!

No, I really haven't done anything beyond the U.S. yet. I was working on 7 surnames at the same time. I decided to concentrate on my side of the family first as my mom, her sister and my dad's brother are still alive. I got my mom's family done (if you are ever done) to a point where I printed out several booklets for her birthday last May. I still have the relatives who stayed in Poland to do and my grandmother's brothers & an uncle and his sons who came to America before she did.
Right now I am concentrating on my dad's side. His parents and first two siblings were born in Polish Austria. I solved the family controversy. My dad's generation insisted that their dad came to America first. After the second baby was born, their mom came. My generation has argued with me that they all came over together. I solved the problem by looking at the ships' manifests', not just the certificate at Ellis Island Passenger Lists. He came over first alone. He apparantly went back to accompany his wife and children to America 2 years later. -

I found census records for Edward G, in 1910 he was at a Military Fort, in 1920, his wife Erma is living with her parents with sons Alan and Lee W, and in 1930 the family is in Allegheny Co, PA. A curious thing, I found an Edward G, born Ohio with parents born in Wales on the 1920 census married to a Jessie, they were in Michigan? I'll post the records if you need them- -

Sorry, Edward G in 1920 was born in PA, as was the Edward who was with Erma and the boys in 1930.

Edward G I, according to his nephew/step son Lee William was married, wife unknown & had a daughter Evelyn who was known lastly to be living in Chicago. His brother William Lee died in 1914. Lee also said his mom, Erma Laurella didn't marry Edward G. for 11 years, making it 1925.
Edward G I (there are 4 now) was the Burgess for the community of Cheswick, PA 1934-1937. We have his badge. He was instrumental in founding the V.F.W. there and his wife, Erma Laurella the ladies auxillary. I'll attach the picture of her with the other Ladies Auxilary members in the Memorial Day parade. She's holding the flag. Also Erma Laurella's mom Laura Harley holding baby Alan Lee in 1932 with Erma Laurella (grandma) and Alan Minton (father) standing behind. Yes! - Far left = Jessie Knox Jenkins wife of Alan Minton Jenkins; Alan Lee Jenkins 1st son of Jessie & Alan Minton; Hannah Minton Boyd Jenkins; & far right = grandson to Hannah, Alan Minton Jenkins. This picture was supposedly taken in 1943.
