Alfred Rosenthal, born about 1890 in Mayen near Koblenz, Germany emigrated to the USA, we know that. His parents were Daniel and Mina Loeb-Rosenthal
He was the brother of my direct ancestor; she emigrated to Israel in 1933.
Her name was Alice.

We have been unable to trace him in the US, found no immigration record of him.
How can we approach this further, any ideas?
TIA, Keren

Hi Keren-

What information leads you to believe that Alfred immigrated to the US?
If you like, you may post a comment to my page, and I'd be happy to try to help. :)

Hi Kate,
Thank you for your answer and for trying to help me.
His sisters, both deceased told us he left at a young age to the US.
They did receive letters from him, but we do not know from where in the States the letters were posted.

I am relatively new here and not yet figured out all the stuff GW got, found your page though...;-))

HI Keren-
I find an Alfred George Rosenthal on a WW1 draft registration, he was born May 10, 1890 in Columsee(?) West Prussia. He lived in Los Angeles, California, and worked as a Grocer-

Is it possible that his mother immigrated to the US? I see a possible match to the above Alfred with mother Minnie, and a brother, indexed as Eusebe, both Alfred's parents are listed as born in Poland. This may not be your Alfred, but its someone who fits some of the information you've given. ;)
Wow thank you so much for your efforts looking for Alfred!!
Mayen Koblenz is the place of birth we know about, that's in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.
I tried to see where Columsee could be and came up with:
Kölpinsee Loddin, Ostvorpommern, Mecklenburg-West Pommerania, Germany.
As far as we know, Mina Loeb-Rosenthal perished in the Shoa and did not emigrate with Alfred, he was the only sibling to do that.
We know about his sisters Alice and Johanna both born in Mayen, but there were more siblings.
That's about the info we have, which makes it very difficult to determine if Alfred George is "our Alfred".
Clearly not much to go on. Would it be an idea to try to trace decedents of de Californian Alfred, see if the know more?

Hi Keren-

I found an Alfred G. Rosenthal, age 19, immigration 1893, living as a lodger with sister(?) Flora Rosenthal, age 21, immigration 1893. Flora was a public school teacher. They were living in Chicago. They and their parents were born in Germany.

I think I found the same family in 1900, the father is Maurice, from Germany, mother Minnie, from NY, Flora was from Germany, Alfred from Germany and Earl born in Illinois, so I'm thinking its the wrong family.

Could Alfred be a Frederick instead of Alfred?
Hi Kate,
Although I know researching your ancestors comes up with the strangest findings I believe it's doubtful, that the name was Frederick.
No proof either, more the fact there is no trace of him, but I also searched on the name Albert. Both sound similar. No success either.
Maybe a first step needs to be done in Germany, and see if I can find his actual birth-certificate.
We could rule out [or in...;-)) ] Alfred George Rosenthal. He sounds as a good candidate.
