Use of abbreviations
I have just read the Genwise newsletter, and find one of my frustrations is built into the Genwise system.
If I were to record an ancestor as being born, living or dieing in DG, would you know where i meant? It is an abbreviation for Dumfries and Galloway. But I would not expect Americans to know that.
Yet, we non-Americans are expected to know your state abbreviations!
Come on, guys, stop being lazy!

This is also a particular bug bear of mine. I never know whether PA is supposed to stand for Philadelphia or Pennsylvania. I always thought MO was Montana but I believe it is actually Missouri. Please everyone bear in mind that this is a global website and don't expect people in other countries to understand your local abbreviations so write them out in full, and American state abbreviations in particular! Or perhaps we should all start using the Chapman county codes for English counties and see what people make of those!

Thanks for enlightening us on the abbreviations in Scotland. Always wanted to know what DG stood for and never got around to asking my friends in Kirkcudbright.
We use abbreviations for our states as well. For instance, Michigan is MI. Will have to go back to read the newsletter.
