Hi Sandy, Thanks for writing.

My great-grandmother was Edna May Shores b. July 27, 1876 d. April 15, 1954 md. Charles Frederick Burton.

Anyways, all that I have so far is that her father was – James Frank Shores born March 14, 1858 married to Sarah Royal

James’ father was Henry Shores born 1829 married to Sarah E. Stephens

Henry’s father was David Shores born Abt. 1783 married to Mary M. (maiden name unknown)

I don’t know where David was born but the rest were all born in New Jersey. Do any of these Shores tie in with your line?

Sandy, it's all in the proof. This isn't always an easy process. I thought my Doolittle line would be the one that would get me into DAR. But it wasn't. Doolittle lineage is well documented and I had the lineage from my great grandfather going back to the first Abraham Doolittle who came to this country in 1638. I had my birth certificate, my dad's birth certificate and my grandfather's death dertificate and my great grandfather's death certificate. We could ties everthing back to one Benjamin Doolittle from Litchfield, Conn. (There was also a cousin Benjamin who was on the pension roles, but not my Benjamin). The Registrar of the chapter I wanted to join searched for information on my Benjamin, but was not able to show how he may have supported the cause with his mills, etc. so I couldn't use that line. I have a line of Newmans and a document showing them going back to the Revolutionary War, however that generation is cloudy and we are related to one of the Newmans who fought in the war but don't know which one. So that crossed out that line. Then we tried the Gary line. My grandmother's grandmother was a Gary. The Gary line is well documented down to my grandmother in a booklet that has since been put online. DAR keeps copies of all documents provided as proof and they also had this document. I provide my proof up to my great great grandmother. There were two other DAR members that claimed the same line I had so their documentation was shared.
I have since found another line where there is proof of the Patriot, however, now I have to prove my lineage to that Patriot.

What I suggest you do is sit down and list your lineage tracing back to your Patriot. Now you don't have to have your lineage come directly through the male of the familiy. Mine for example: father-Robert; grandmother-Ella Mae Newman; g grandfather-George Alfred Newman; gg grandmother-Phoebe Gary; Charles ainsworth Gary; Charles Gary; Enos Gary (my patriot). Once you've done this, you need to collect your proof in whatever you can find: birth certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses, census lists... Thank you for having provided by direct email his other given names. Based on what you gave, with at least 3 positive points, I conclude that I have indeed found your target immigrant ancestor the NY Passenger List! For more details, please see my direct email in reply to yours.

To obtain more help from people, in your specific posts, please include first names, years of birth, etc. I found several Furcht entries, but to pin down the right one, I'd need to know his given name(s), age, etc. Email me directly karlmsala@msn.com Although his name may have been Frederick or Friedrich, he probably had at least one additional given name. Do you know it?
