The mystery of the old family Bible and who is Frank Molloy?

A very dear cousin recently gave me a large old bible, which belonged to our Great-Grandmother, Mary Belle Doyle (Carr). No births or family tree listed, Just an inscription in the front. The bible was a gift from her nephew. In the bible is a newspaper clipping of the funeral of Frank Molloy. Frank was a young man who drowned in 1886  in Pine Lake, Laporte, Indiana. So the big question is Why did my GGrandmother have this clipping in the bible? an even bigger mystery is..My GGrandma was born in 1886 in Virginia, the same year that frank died. I have searched & searched..can't seem to figure out how he relates to my family. Who is Frank Molloy and is he related to my family??   Hmmm...and the search continues..

Wow. I had not seen that particular article.  There are quite a few names in it.  I wonder if we could determine what paper this was published in so that we can determine if it was sent to someone in VA.  Where was your great grandmother living when the bible was recovered? This has my mind going so many directions.  The most confusing thing is the timeframe of the article. I almost want to put the connection on the Doyle side thinking perhaps Peter would have had a better chance to have more of a connection with this family. It doesn't seem to be about the girl who drowned. You mentioned the article was obviously transferred.  That makes a lot of sense.  We would have to consider who was alive and old enough to have some association. I wonder if there was a Doyle bible at one time.  Also seeing what I can find out on Lee Burwell's slaves.

Yes, my grandma loved to talk about her family history and we were very close. I grew up listening to this oral history. I noticed the same, that the notice was printed in several localities. That seems odd to me. I would think that a funeral notice would only be printed in the city and state of the deceased.  I have tried to find the clip that I have, however none of the ones that I found look like the one that I have. The words are different. Mine is much more detailed.   Neatly cut out, there's no indication of what newspaper.

Your Grandma seems to have told you a lot.  Did you grow up knowing this oral history? Well, I don't know if we'll get that question about Frank answered but I sure hope to. I noticed the story was printed in various localities.  Most of them Midwestern, but I wonder if it was that kind of story or if the parent's relationship to the press had anything to do with it.  Have you found out what newspaper your print is from?

Just noticed your attachment. Yes, I've seen this before. I don't think I read it all. Very interesting! Molly went through a lot. Peter lived in Illinois in 1915-abt 1921. The cities of Danville and Springfield. reading this story, brought that to mind. I don't know why he was there, if there was family there or not.

Oh I found a post from a guy on ancestry who may have a link to Emma Molloy. It was ten years ago, lol.  But I left a message for him to look up frank on the molloy boards. So if he ever checks, he can find you.  He's focused on their life after they left Iowa.

On Peter's sister's record 1925 Iowa census -- says her parents are Lee Doyle and Sarah Lee. I don't know why she was in there lol.  A married woman with a 17 year old boy, and they don't appear to be related.  Anything would be speculation. I thought I linked the book about Emma. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/emma-speaks-out-martha-m-pickrell/1...

Wow. I remember reading a bit about some murder plot.. It would be nice to know more about Rosa. I wonder why she was in the boat with Frank that day they drowned. Very strange.

This lady wrote about who I believe is Frank's mom due to the articles about his drowning I read.  Emma Molloy an evangelist and lecturer, also a newspaper editor along with her husband.  She did travel a lot.  She was a strong voice for women too.  Plus she was in the middle of a murder plot.  The other person, Mrs. Rosa Wile Stern -- II see via census that her father is a banker.  These are some pretty well known folks in that area. This story gets stranger and stranger.
