Hi Chris
Yes it is a while since we have been in touch. The Dunedin McGeorge went from Kirkpatrick Durham to Victoria, Australia. (There is a road named after them) One or 2 of the brothers went to Dunedin where they became involved in gold dredging. AC would stand for Alexander Crow McGeorge.
Maybe your g'dad just wanted to be different from the rest of the family! My maiden name was Behrnes and the rest of the Uncles were Behrens which is the correct German spelling. I think it just evolved that way
Newspapers on line eg The Times in England and earlier papers may be searched through your local library if the have a subscription to the Gale databases. You should be able to log on using your library card and a pin number from home. Don't forget to also search under Macgeorge, and M'George
cheers
Kay
