William Allen Coleman : Confederate Veteran, Farmer, Cattleman,Banker, and Mayor of the city of Carrollton, Georgia was born 25 Sep 1838 in Cobb county, Georgia, son of Henry Allen Coleman and Sarah Ann Barnes. He was a farmer when the War Between The States broke out, at which time he volunteered for service with Comnpany E , 1st Georgia Cavalry, CSA. He served through-out the war in many hard-fought battles, having his horse shot from under him in one of them. After his unit's surrender, and not long after returning home to Carroll county, Georgia, he joined a group of other Confederate soldiers and their families refugeeing to Spanish Honduras. After residing in Spanish Honduras for a number of years, He left his estate in Honduras with his son, William F. Coleman, and returned to Carroll county, Georgia. He continued his farming profession and received income from his estate in Honduras becoming quiet wealthy. He was married three times: (1st) Cynthia Florence Riggs, 1837-1877; (2nd) to Clara E. Kolb, 1852-1897; (3rd) to Mary E.D. (Mollie) Bailey . He served on the board of the Carrollton Bank and served one term as Mayor of the City of Carrollton, Georgia. He died in 1917 and is buried in a family plot in the Carrollton City Cemetery.
