Here's a somewhat cleaned-up copy of the Marriage Certificate of Thomas B. SMITH and Mary 'Mollie' MacKIE dated 1 Jan 1775; they married 21 January in Jersey Settlement, Rowan Co., North Carolina Colony.
It is signed by Thomas and his father-in-law to be, Robert McKie.

Records often show the Scottish surname transcribed as 'Mackie', and it's clearly seen here that both father and daughter did use a lower case 'k' in the middle of the surname. The clerk (James Robinson?) writing the certificate used the traditional spelling with a capital 'K' in the middle.
It looks as if the copy was made with an old-fashioned mimeograph machine. Sorry. you should have seen the copy before I tried to clean it up.
