maternal great grandfather Joseph Aaron Endicott Jr. (1855-1916)--principal of Lincoln Elementary School in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Joseph and his older siblings were born in slavery in Liberty, Missouri. Grace Vann Collazo ( d.1974), a daughter of Josephs sister Alice Endicott Vann ( born 1855) stated that the Endicott children were slaves in name only, were owned by their uncle ( a white half brother of their father), and were treated as family. This is very plausible, because Grace obtained the information, first hand ,from her mother who was one of the slaves. The Endicotts were descended from John Endicott (1588/89-1665), governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
