I am currently trying to write out a bunch of "Descendants of" sheets and I have a question concerning the proper format. If cousins marry and have children, are they included under the husband or the wife? Both children (spouses) would be included in the "Descendants of" sheet and I'm just confused as to which line I detail - do I just descend down from the first child (spouse) listed and make a note under the second child (spouse) or do I write it out twice, under each of them? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

When you say "Descendants of" sheets, are you referring to Family Group Sheets? When you add the parents of each parent, it will run off as descendants no matter which line you are running off.
Caro -- Why not use the standard Register Format and expand on it. That way you are using a recognized standard that is easily followed. That being said, I think how you handle that is the first time the person or spouse appears you give the detail, and the second time you just refer back to the person's number where the detail had previously been entered.
Myheritage.com provides free software you can download. You can put your information into that software and it will help you with your family pages. It's pretty easy to use. Yes, it is not as full bodied as Family Tree Maker, but for a beginner it works quite well. Also you can create a GEDCOM from it and load that into any other genealogy you might decide to upgrade to.

When I think of "Family Group Sheets" I think of those sheets that list the parents and then has a list of children with their birth/death dates. What I'm trying to do is the sheets that out as "Descendants of So-and-so". Acutally, I think what I am referring is the Register Format. I knew there was a name, I just couldn't remember it. Anyhow, this is what I'm talking about: (Obviously there are margin differences but I'm not sure how to express that here.)

Descendants of Philip Vogel

Generation No. 1

1. PHILIP VOGEL was born in 1601 in Bayern, Germany and died in 1694.

Children of PHILIP VOGEL are:
2. i. Veronica VOGEL, b. 1626 in Germany; d. 30 June 1694 in Freilingen, Bayern, Germany, m. JOHANNES GEORGI.

Generation No. 2

2. VERONICA VOGEL (Philip1) was born in 1626 in Germany and died 30 June 1694 in Freilingen, Bayern, Germany. She married JOHANNES GEORGI. He was born in 1634 in Bayern Germany and died 1 March 1705 in Freilingen, Bayern, Germany.

Children of VERONICA VOGEL and JOHANNES GEORGI are:
3. .i. CHRISTINA C GEORGI, b. 1661 in Freilingen, Bitburg-Prum, Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany; d. in Germany, m. STEPHAN ANTONI THONIUS.

I think expanding on the original person and then just making a reference with the second person is a great idea. That what I was thinking but I wanted to see what others were doing. Thanks for the idea!
Caro -- Most genealogy programs will automatically generate a register report for you and include the proper numbering system and footnotes or endnotes. You can save that file over to your word processor and add to it the family stories and information that you wish to hand down. For example: So and so was stuck in a snow drift for several days and to this day he can't stand snow.

For small databases you can download several programs for free. I wrote a book about 16 years ago and it was self-published. What I learned from that experience is that it would have been overwhelming to finish the book properly without the help of a genealogy program..

Hope this helps.
