Pennsylvania to California

My great-grandfather Daniel Sailor (Seiler, Saylor), left Pennsylvania about 1848 and spent almost 30 years migrating to San Francisco, Calif.  He lived for periods in Kentucky, Wisconsin and Illinoise, finally arriving in San Francisco about 1876.

I have no knowledge of his origins in Pennsylavania, nor what his motivations were. Some oral history suggests that the gold rush may have been the original motivation.
