Racer (formerly DeCoursey) Family in Ohio
My ancestors were Denis Corsa Racer and his wife Mary "Polly" Holdren.
Their son, Benjamin was born in 1810 in Marietta, Washington county, Ohio. Benjamin married Sarah Minear in 1833 in Athens.
The Racer family lived in that area for quite sometime, however, Benjamin and Sarah migrated to Iowa. I'm not sure when the Racers arrived in Ohio, but I do know by at leasta 1803, when Denis and Mary's son Joseph was born there.
Grace Holdren Racer, daughter of Benjamin Racer (son of Denis and Mary Racer) married James Henry Stanley. She recorded the DeCoursey/Racer family history.
The Racer family surname had been DeCoursey. It was changed to Racer during the French/Indian wars.
