As far as I know, our Varsi family name has nothing to do with the Italian Varsi family name that has it's origin from Varsi comune (municipality) in the Province of Parma in Italy.

The Sami people, also spelled Sámi, or Saami, are one of the indigenous people of northern Europe inhabiting Sápmi, and are among the largest indigenous ethnic groups in Europe. The Sami have traditionally plied a variety of livelihoods, including coastal fishing, fur trapping, and sheep herding. However, the best known Sami livelihood is semi-nomadic reindeer herding. The sami people come from parts of northern Sweden, Norway, Finland and the Kola Peninsula of Russia but also in the border area between south and middle Sweden.

My Varsi ancestors mainly came from northern Norway and Finland. My mother is an ethnic Sami, but my father don't have any Sami ancestors. My grandparents on my mother's side lived all their life in Tana (Deatnu), Finnmark.
